Chapter 181: Chapter 181: I'm a Good Person (1)

That damned Xu Xiaobei dared to torment me like this, making me run a high fever, hmph. Next time, she better pray I don’t run into her, or I’ll beat her into a Transformer and haul her off to the police station... No, the station’s in cahoots with her, so that’d be pointless. Might as well have Rong Yi send her to the demon realm next time...

Qiqi fumed as she thought about the suffering she’d endured in the mental hospital over the past two days.

She struggled to prop herself up on her elbows, rummaging through the medicine box on the bedside table until she found a pack of paracetamol. She quickly popped two pills and swallowed them, then wrapped herself in the blanket to sweat it out.

Worry crept into her mind—Rong Yi had never been to a pharmacy before. Could he even find one? And even if he did, he had no money—how would he buy medicine? Plus, he’d left in such a hurry, he must not have taken the keys, right? How would he get in later? Well, she’d better not fall asleep, so she could open the door for him...

Oh man, she must be delirious from the fever, actually worrying about Rong Yi not being able to get in. Qiqi, Qiqi, have you forgotten how your door lock got broken in the first place?

Just as Qiqi was groggily debating whether to let herself drift off, a thunderous crash erupted from outside the door—

Bang! Bang!

It was the sound of the security door being smashed.

Judging by the rough movements, someone was kicking it.

Qiqi’s head throbbed as she struggled to get up: “Rong Yi, if you forgot your keys, can’t you just ask me to open the door? Stop smashing it—breaking the lock is expensive!”

But by the time she finally managed to stand and stagger into the yard, she found a noisy crowd outside the gate: “Open up! Open up now, or we’ll shoot!”

Shoot? What’s going on?

Gu Qiqi was stunned, feeling like a gang of bandits had surrounded the house. Then, with a loud “thud,” the security door crashed to the ground. Amid the swirling dust, her door lock was, unfortunately, wrecked once again.

A swarm of people poured in—all heavily armed police officers in bulletproof vests, their dark gun barrels aimed squarely at Gu Qiqi, rounds chambered, ready for action.

Huh? What’s happening?

Qiqi was so scared her mind snapped to clarity. Her first instinct was to raise both hands, stammering, “Don’t shoot! I’m, I’m a good person...”

Two officers immediately rushed forward, pinned Gu Qiqi down, and pressed a pistol to her head. The remaining dozen or so cops stormed into Qiqi’s house, banging around as they searched, before reporting to their leader: “Target suspect not inside. Report complete.”

The police chief’s face was grim, his eyes sharp as a hawk’s as he glared at Qiqi: “Where’s your accomplice? That man named Rong Yi?”

Accomplice? Gu Qiqi was completely baffled and could only answer honestly: “He went out. I don’t know where. What, what crime did we commit?”

The officer coldly brandished an arrest warrant: “You’re suspected of escaping custody, assault, and endangering public safety. I’m arresting you now. You’d better come clean about Rong Yi’s whereabouts.”

Escaping custody? Assault? Endangering public safety?

Okay, fine, I’ll admit we did escape custody and did assault someone (if that city inspector counts as a person). But what’s this about endangering public safety?

Gu Qiqi felt bewildered. She held her head, not daring to resist. The cops, not bothering with more talk, searched fruitlessly and then dragged her straight to the police car.

As she watched her hands being cuffed with shiny iron restraints again, Gu Qiqi let out a sigh—bad luck, family misfortune. Why had she been getting so chummy with the police lately?
