Lost in thought, she absentmindedly folded the napkin in her hand into the shape of a wolf. Of course, since it had been a while since she last folded anything, her skills were a bit rusty, and the wolf didn’t look quite right. But at that moment, she couldn’t worry about that. Qiqi handed the cloth figure directly to the little girl and asked, “***, do you know what this is?”
“A puppy?”
“Uh... well, *** is so smart, it is a puppy.”
“But this puppy is so ugly—skinny and old, it looks terrible,” the little girl said, wrinkling her nose.
It was a bit ugly, but where was the old part?
Qiqi took a closer look at her masterpiece—the wolf had a very long snout, big ears, and a thin waist. It was indeed a bit ugly...
So she said, “Right, this puppy doesn’t like to eat vegetables, that’s why he’s so skinny.”
*** widened her eyes and asked in a childish voice, “Really? If you don’t eat vegetables, you’ll look this ugly?”
Qiqi’s eyes curved into crescent moons. “Exactly, so sweetie, be good. Don’t be picky like this puppy, or you won’t grow up pretty.”
The little girl looked at the ugly wolf, let out an “oh,” and finally quieted down. Qiqi played with her for a while longer until the child stopped crying.
The mother was very grateful to Qiqi and gave her an extra tip.
Qiqi stood up, let out a sigh of relief, and was about to attend to other customers when she noticed a gentle, warm gaze nearby—it was Senior Brother Lu.
It turned out that Lu Wei had been sitting in the lounge area nearby, watching her with a soft smile.
Qiqi was delighted and quickly walked over to him. “Senior Brother, what are you doing here?”
Lu Wei replied, “I came to eat. Qiqi, do you work here?”
“Yeah, it’s summer break, so I’m taking the chance to work and study.”
Wearing a simple lilac-colored apron that made her look like a little maid from a European palace, Qiqi led her senior brother to a seat and asked, “Senior Brother, let me serve you. What would you like to eat?”
But Lu Wei didn’t order; he said he was waiting for someone. Then he asked, “Qiqi, why are you working? Aren’t you already a senior? Next semester, you’ll start your hospital internship. Why not go home and prepare properly?”
Qiqi answered, “I’m only working for a month. I’ll have the remaining month to review my coursework, so don’t worry, Senior Brother.”
Lu Wei then asked, “Which hospital are you interning at?”
Qiqi replied, “I’ve applied to several hospitals, but I won’t know which one until after this semester’s grades come out.”
Lu Wei nodded. “Qiqi, have you thought about what specialty you’ll choose later?”
By “specialty,” he meant the specific job position Qiqi would pick in the future. For example, she was studying clinical medicine, but in a real hospital, clinical medicine is divided into many departments—obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, and so on. Once students finish their internships and officially start working, they can choose their future direction. But that decision wouldn’t come until graduation, so wasn’t Senior Brother asking too early?
She answered honestly, “I haven’t decided yet, but I prefer surgery.”
Lu Wei nodded. Seeing that the restaurant was busy, he didn’t want to disturb her work, so he said, “You don’t need to take my order for now. I’m waiting for someone to join me for a meal. They haven’t arrived yet, so I’ll call you later.”
Qiqi nodded and left. But she kept an eye on her senior brother’s table, curious—who was he waiting to have dinner with?
