Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The Silkworm Who Wanted to Make Money

Crackle, crackle.

Su Hao’s fingers moved deftly, tapping away on the newly purchased laptop.

The silkworm stared with dead fish eyes, lying flat on the table, watching him silently.

*It’s my computer!*

Su Hao searched the Thousand Net for information on multiple compressions of spiritual power.

A flood of related results appeared.

But when he looked closer, what were they?

“There’s actually so little real content about multiple compressions of spiritual power? Several results are just from novels?”

Su Hao had a black question mark face.

Finally, he found something somewhat valuable.

A thesis.

A *conjecture* on multiple compressions of spiritual power.

Just a conjecture!

“Could it be that this world still doesn’t have a systematic method for spirits to compress spiritual power multiple times? Or has the upper echelon already mastered it but hasn’t made it public?”

Su Hao had no way of knowing.

But regardless, just based on spiritual power compression alone, the unlock value of Spiritual Power Enhancement Training was greater than he’d imagined.

He had to admit: the panel was awesome.

So really, *he* was awesome.

The silkworm’s spiritual power was currently just over seventy, still a fair distance from one hundred.

On October 1st, it had only been sixty.

The rapid increase to seventy-two in just over ten days was thanks to a combination of mid-grade jade powder and other nutritional supplements.

The training method was also key.

It had perfectly absorbed the nutrients without any waste.

“But the growth only spiked in the first few days of using mid-grade jade powder. It’ll slow down now, only about thirty percent faster than the phase with low-grade jade powder.”

With the end-of-term joint practical exercise for five schools only a little over two months away, at the silkworm’s current pace, breaking through the entry level was impossible. But breaking through 120 spiritual power and completing one “small compression” was something he could look forward to.

“Breaking through the entry level requires a ‘large compression,’ while compressions before that are collectively called ‘small compressions.’ But even those significantly boost a spirit’s strength. The silkworm needs to start preparing now, or its spiritual power limit will get stuck just over a hundred.”

In Su Hao’s understanding, this was like expanding meridians in a martial arts novel.

A spirit’s body was like a bucket, and spiritual power was the water.

When the bucket was full, the spirit’s spiritual power couldn’t grow anymore.

At that point, the bucket’s capacity needed to be expanded.

The information provided him with several methods.

Su Hao read them carefully, sinking into thought.

“The simplest and most efficient is to have a high-level spirit help.”

Any spirit above the elite level had this ability.

Same attribute was best.

But he didn’t have one.

“There might be services like that on the market, but they’d definitely be expensive.”

Su Hao flipped through the options and found he only had one choice left.

—The external stimulation method.

Using medicine, combined with special acupuncture techniques, to expand the spirit’s spiritual power capacity.

Still needed money!

“Silkworm, you’re in luck again. Happy or not?”

The silkworm still stared, watching him speak silently.

“I’m going to buy some stuff for you. You coming?”

“Really not coming? Fine, I’m off.”

Su Hao left.

The silkworm immediately bounced up.

It crawled to the door, peeked out sneakily, then came back to the computer and nudged the mouse.

Its little stubby legs were too short to be useful, so it had to bite the mouse to move it.

Clumsily, it opened some software.

It shifted the computer’s position, adjusted the angle, and turned on the camera.

Quickly, it recorded a short video, about a dozen seconds long.

In the video,

a silkworm was performing acrobatics.

It stood upright and spat out spiritual power orbs slightly smaller than a bird’s egg.

One orb after another flew high, then fell, and the silkworm swiftly caught them, swallowing them back into its mouth.

After filming, it didn’t know how to edit, so it just posted the video using an account it had registered a few days ago.

Under the account name, there were two other short videos.

The silkworm nudged the mouse, clicked on the other two videos, saw the meager views, the sparse comments, the empty tip jar, and then checked the creator subsidy rules.

It struggled through the math it had recently learned, and its eyes grew dejected.

*When will I ever earn some pocket money, gurunuo (???︿???)?*

The silkworm pondered.

It closed the video software and opened a web browser.

From its mouth, it spat a thin stream of spiritual power. The light particles condensed, barely holding together.

It worked for a long time, finally writing two characters on the handwriting pad: *earn money*.

On the screen,

the Thousand Net search results were a dazzling array.

The silkworm tried to identify them with its limited literacy, quickly falling into a daze.

“Gurunuo~”

*I’m too tired.*

When Su Hao returned carrying a big bag of stuff, he saw a well-behaved, diligent silkworm practicing spiritual power control.

He was quite satisfied.

“Silkworm, look what I brought back for you.”

“Gurunuo.”

The silkworm wasn’t interested.

“You’re not interested in stuff worth tens of thousands? What a wasteful silkworm.”

“Gurunuo!!”

The silkworm jumped up. “Gurunuo gurunuo!”

“What? You don’t want this, you just want money? No way. As a growing-stage spirit, there’s only one thing you should be doing right now: training.”

“Gurunuo~”

“Didn’t I already buy you a computer?”

“What do you mean ‘steal’? A spirit tamer’s business—that’s not stealing!”

“And you’re not really suited for playing on the computer anyway.”

The silkworm took a critical hit. The silkworm grew dejected.

Then Su Hao added, “But once you evolve, you’ll have antennae and can easily use a computer and phone. Isn’t that exciting? So all this hard work now is for better playtime later.”

The silkworm thought it over.

*Huh. It actually doesn’t sound like a lie.*

*It really makes sense.*

Su Hao took out a beautifully packaged box and carefully removed a crystal ball from it:

“This is a spiritual power ball—a tool specifically for training spiritual power. Give it a try.”

Made by Green Shade Group, perfect for spirits that haven’t yet entered the beginner level.

With the spiritual power ball, improving a spirit’s control over its spiritual power was a breeze.

Su Hao had wanted to buy one for a while.

He just couldn’t afford it before.

This ball cost 5,800.

The silkworm curiously approached the spiritual power ball and glanced at the instruction manual beside it.

*Input… spiritual power…*

It pressed against the crystal ball and slowly injected its spiritual power.

Instantly,

the entire crystal ball lit up. Looking closely, you could see a bright green dot inside, with faint translucent paths around it.

“Control your spiritual power and make the green dot move along the path.”

The silkworm immediately manipulated its spiritual power, moving it carefully.

It was a trained spirit with a foundation, so it completed one lap of the path in just three minutes.

And its alignment rate was fairly high.

The crystal ball had a base underneath that displayed a real-time score, and it didn’t need charging—the spiritual power injected during training was its energy source.

The base gave a score of 73.

The silkworm looked at it. *That’s way too low!*

Su Hao could score 90 on his tests!

It was very unhappy and stubbornly kept practicing.

Su Hao saw that it was settled.

Why was this spiritual power training crystal ball so popular?

Because it made spirits “addicted.”
