Chapter 143: Chapter 143: First Wilderness Camping

Shen Qi's words made everyone present smile. After dinner, Shen Qi and He Yining took a casual stroll nearby to help digest their food. Just then, a few children ran by holding glowing balloons. Under the dim lights, those animal-shaped balloons were simply adorable. Noticing Shen Qi staring at the balloons, He Yining smiled and said to her, "Wait for me." Before Shen Qi could react, He Yining had already jogged over to the children. He crouched down and said to them, "There's a sister over there who really likes your balloons. Can I buy one to give to her?" The children turned around in unison to look at Shen Qi. One child said to He Yining, "Big brother, you're so handsome. We'll just give you the balloon." He Yining laughed heartily, picked up the sweet-talking little one, and gave him a kiss: "Then big brother thanks you!" The other children watched, utterly envious: "Me too! Me too!" So He Yining kissed each child in turn, and they all handed their balloons over to him. Shen Qi stood to the side, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "Hey, President He is so rich, and you only spend a few kisses to get balloons?" Shen Qi teased him deliberately. "Yeah. These kisses are pretty valuable—that's my wholesale price. Now, if you kiss me, I'll give you a balloon. That's the retail price." He Yining shamelessly replied. "Because your kiss is worth more than mine. That's how I make the profit on the difference." Shen Qi nearly burst out laughing. He really couldn't stay away from his business for three sentences! He Yining pointed at his cheek with a thick face: "One right here." Shen Qi blushed deeply: "Stop messing around." He Yining shook the balloons in his hand: "It's a great deal—one kiss for one balloon." Under the streetlight, Shen Qi looked at He Yining's handsome, devilish face, and her heart stirred. She stood on tiptoe and gently pressed a kiss to his cheek. He Yining beamed with joy and handed her a balloon. Then he pointed to his other cheek: "One here." Shen Qi, her face still flushed, stood on tiptoe again and left another lip print. Satisfied, He Yining handed her another. "And here." He Yining pointed to his lips. "Hey, are you ever going to stop?" Shen Qi shot him a playful glare. "Someone might walk by!" "So if no one walks by, it's okay?" He Yining asked with a grin. Shen Qi's face turned as red as a boiled shrimp, looking so tempting he wanted to devour her. "Stop it." That was the only thing Shen Qi could manage to say. "Fine, if you won't kiss me, then I'll kiss you instead. One kiss from me, one balloon for you." He Yining said cheerfully. "You're cheating!" Shen Qi huffed at him. "Yeah, I'm cheating. What are you going to do, bite me?" He Yining planted a loud kiss on Shen Qi's cheek, then happily pulled out a balloon and handed it to her. Shen Qi was speechless at He Yining's sudden childishness. After several more kisses, He Yining finally, contentedly, gave all the balloons to Shen Qi. As Shen Qi held them up, He Yining immediately said, "Don't move." With that, he pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of her. A bad feeling crept into Shen Qi's heart, and she hurried over to see: "What are you going to do?" "Such a silly picture has to be my phone wallpaper." He Yining answered matter-of-factly. "Can't waste such a rare moment!" Shen Qi was covered in black lines. She suddenly felt that the usually brilliant He Yining was such a goofball. The two of them walked back to the campsite, holding the balloons and looking foolish. When the others saw Shen Qi with those ridiculous balloons, their eyebrows twisted in suppressed laughter, which was pure torture. Annoyed, Shen Qi shoved the balloons into He Yining's arms and went off to wash up. He Yining watched her retreating figure, laughing with pure joy. In the middle of summer, no one wanted to sleep in the car. So everyone took out their tents and set up little mushrooms by the lake. Naturally, Shen Qi and He Yining were sharing a tent. As soon as they crawled inside, He Yining said to Shen Qi, "Wife, let's sleep holding each other tonight." Shen Qi refused: "No way, there are too many people around." "It's fine. See, I didn't turn on the light, so no one can see." He Yining grinned as he sidled up to her. Shen Qi tried to resist, but He Yining pounced on her: "Little beauty, just give in to this young master." Shen Qi couldn't help but laugh, and He Yining successfully pulled her into his arms. When she woke up in the morning, Shen Qi was still in He Yining's embrace. The moment she stirred, He Yining woke up. He kissed her forehead: "Xiao Qi, good morning." "Morning." Shen Qi adjusted her position and unceremoniously draped her leg over him. He Yining sighed: "Xiao Qi is getting heavier." Shen Qi was about to glare at him, but He Yining kissed her again: "It's okay. I work out every day. No matter how heavy you get, I can still carry you." He Yining had been saying a lot of sweet nothings lately. Shen Qi felt a bit unaccustomed to it. It seemed like ever since she came back from Feng Manlun's villa, He Yining's attitude toward her had changed. Before, his sweet talk was at a plus-one level; now it had upgraded to plus-five! How strange. Wasn't he supposed to be angry that she didn't come back that day? Why did he seem so excited and happy instead? Never mind. She wouldn't dwell on it. At least he wasn't mad. After they got dressed, while others prepared breakfast, the two of them took a slow walk. Breathing in the fresh air and stretching their limbs, they suddenly felt how pleasant life could be. After breakfast, everyone packed up and continued the journey. Shen Qi leaned over the table, continuing to sketch. Shen Wu leaned in: "Is this for me?" He Yining raised an eyebrow: "Of course it's for me." Shen Qi waved them off: "Don't bother me. I'm designing a wedding dress. Are you two going to wear one?" Shen Wu and He Yining both shut up at once. Then He Yining suddenly remembered that he still owed his little angel a wedding... Just then, Shen Qi's phone rang. She answered with one hand: "Hello, this is Shen Qi." "Miss Shen, please talk some sense into Mr. Charles!" The caller was Charles's assistant. "He drank a lot yesterday!" Shen Qi's brows shot up: "My teacher's stomach is already in bad shape. Why is he still drinking? Why didn't you stop him?" "He sent me away!" The assistant was furious too! Shen Qi sighed: "Alright, I understand. I'll call him." After hanging up, she immediately dialed Charles: "Teacher..." "Xiao Qi, I didn't drink much, really." Charles quickly defended himself as soon as he saw her call. "Just two glasses of fruit wine. I swear! Come back and check if you don't believe me!" Shen Qi fumed: "You know I can't come back right now!" Charles coaxed her over the phone: "I promise, I won't drink anymore. Absolutely not!" "Don't send your assistant away again!" Shen Qi emphasized. "Fine, fine, I definitely won't." Charles immediately agreed. Only then did Shen Qi calm down. After hanging up, Shen Wu leaned over from the sofa and asked, "You seem to care a lot about him?" Shen Qi put her phone away and nodded: "My teacher is a good person. He cares about me a lot. Like... like a father. I haven't had a father since I was five..." She didn't finish the sentence, but everyone present understood what she meant. Shen Wu sighed and came over to hug her: "Our Xiao Qi has suffered." Just then, He Yining looked at the map and said, "Hmm? There's a famous temple up ahead. Xiao Qi, didn't you say you wanted to find a place to pray?" Shen Qi's eyes lit up: "Great idea." The RV took a slight detour and drove straight to the foot of the mountain. Shen Qi insisted on walking up on her own, saying it was the only way to show sincerity. Shen Wu and He Yining accompanied her as they slowly climbed from the base. The hill wasn't tall, only about two hundred meters. But they walked slowly, taking nearly half an hour to reach the top. Shen Qi knelt devoutly before the Buddha and bowed respectfully. He Yining handed her a lit incense stick, and Shen Qi closed her eyes, silently praying: May the Buddha grant peace to my father's soul in heaven, may my mother be safe and well, and may my brother recover soon. Shen Qi's pious expression tugged at He Yining's heart. She carefully paid respects to every Buddha statue in the temple. Finally, she dropped her spare change into the donation box and left with a wistful look. Later, they passed several more temples along the way, and Shen Qi stopped to worship at every single one. Seeing how earnest she was, Shen Wu and He Yining joined in the prayers. After three days of travel, they were finally about to enter the mountains. Before heading in, everyone stocked up on supplies, filling up on clean water and fuel. Shen Qi also packed the fridge and freezer with fresh fruits and vegetables. After shopping, she looked up at the sky and said, "I have a feeling it's going to rain." Shen Wu stood beside her, also glancing up: "I hear that after the rain, a delicious type of mushroom grows in these woods. It makes an amazing soup." "All you think about is eating." Shen Qi shot him a look. "No wonder Auntie is always making soup for you." "Haha, wait until you've tried my mom's soup, and you won't say that." Shen Wu deliberately ruffled Shen Qi's hair, turning her neat, long black locks into a bird's nest. Shen Qi yelped and ran outside, just as He Yining was walking over. She shouted at him, "He Yining, someone's bullying your wife!" He Yining immediately cracked his neck and wrists with a fierce grin: "Come on, let's have a go." The next second, it was Shen Wu's turn to scream. Shen Qi couldn't bear to watch. Really, it was too brutal. He Yining had been trained from childhood under the iron fists of his assassin mother and mercenary father, so his combat and grappling skills were the real deal. Once they'd had their fun, a thunderclap boomed overhead. Yep, it was really going to rain! Everyone quickly got back into the vehicles and continued on. Not long after the cars turned onto the mountain road, the rain poured down in sheets.
