Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Before Returning to the Farm

Wen Qi spent some time training with Turtwig before letting it have dinner and rest on its own. He returned to his room, pondering that he should head back to the farm as soon as possible. Lately, he planned to focus on nurturing Venonat, aiming to help this Pokémon reach level 21 quickly and become an intermediate-level Pokémon. Through his careful cultivation, aided by the small world, Venonat had already reached level 15, and he estimated it would take about ten more days to achieve the goal. After all, he had already wasted quite some time; if he didn’t get back to farming, it would be a disservice to the title of this story.

After planning out the training schedule for his three Pokémon, Wen Qi fell asleep peacefully. The day’s exhaustion had left him thoroughly tired.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the clouds, and Wen Qi stepped into the small world again with excitement. He eagerly summoned his three Pokémon, looking forward to starting a new day of training with them. The first to catch his eye was Turtwig, the little one with the lowest level and the youngest age, only about ten days old. Its green shell shimmered with a youthful glow under the sun, and its round, dark eyes curiously observed the new companions. Wen Qi knew that Turtwig’s training couldn’t be rushed; it needed gradual progress to build its combat skills and stamina.

Next, Wen Qi’s gaze shifted to Horsea. Horsea was still a Water-type Pokémon, its body gleaming with a deep blue luster like a spirit of the sea. However, battling on land was clearly inconvenient for Horsea, as its strengths couldn’t be fully utilized. Wen Qi thought to himself that perhaps after returning to the farm, he could arrange more training for Horsea to let it showcase its true potential. For now, basic training would suffice. After all, Horsea would eventually evolve into a Dragon-type Pokémon, and while its growth rate wasn’t slow compared to other pseudo-legendary Dragon-types, it was still somewhat sluggish compared to other Pokémon.

Finally, Wen Qi’s attention turned to Venonat. This was the Pokémon he had decided to prioritize nurturing earlier. Seeing that Venonat’s body had grown stronger after a night of energy nourishment, and through the system, he confirmed it was in excellent health. It seemed the small world’s restorative and nourishing effects were truly remarkable. In such a short time, Venonat had recovered from its previously frail state. Wen Qi believed that with continued training, Venonat would grow quickly.

Thus, about ten days passed. Wen Qi watched his three Pokémon training diligently in the small world. Although Turtwig had the best aptitude, it hadn’t endured much hardship before, and while it trained hard, it lacked the perseverance of Venonat and Horsea. Still, Wen Qi wasn’t too strict with Turtwig; as his starter Pokémon, he couldn’t help but be a bit partial. After ten days of training, Turtwig had successfully reached level 15.

Pokémon: Turtwig Level: 15 Type: Grass Ability: Overgrow (Boosts Grass-type moves when HP is low) Aptitude: Deep Cyan Moves: Tackle (Proficient), Withdraw (Proficient), Absorb (Proficient), Root (Proficient), Growth (Proficient), Synthesis (Proficient), Razor Leaf (Proficient), Energy Ball (Proficient), Earth Power (Beginner, Variant), Grassy Terrain (Beginner, Variant), Mega Drain (Proficient), Leech Seed (Proficient)

Though Turtwig sometimes slacked off, its strong aptitude and learning ability stood out. Except for the variant moves Earth Power and Grassy Terrain, which were still at the beginner stage, all other moves were already mastered. This was why Wen Qi didn’t scold Turtwig for its occasional laziness. Although Wen Qi hadn’t paid much attention to Horsea’s training during this period, the little one trained very seriously and diligently, also reaching level 15, having only gained two levels. Despite Horsea’s hard work, the gap in aptitude with Turtwig and its naturally slower growth rate meant it only improved by two levels.

Pokémon: Horsea Level: 15 Type: Water Ability: Sniper (Powers up moves when landing critical hits) Aptitude: Deep Green Moves: Leer (Proficient), Water Gun (Proficient), Smokescreen (Proficient), Focus Energy (Proficient), Dragon Breath (Proficient), Dragon Pulse (Proficient), Agility (Beginner), Dragon Dance (Beginner), Twister (Beginner)

In terms of moves, Horsea had three newly learned moves that weren’t yet mastered, but the rest were proficient. Wen Qi was fairly satisfied with Horsea’s progress. Finally, when he looked at Venonat, he couldn’t help but marvel at how he had underestimated its growth potential. In just ten days, Venonat had jumped seven levels, breaking through the intermediate bottleneck from level 15 to level 22.

Pokémon: Venonat Level: 22 Type: Bug + Poison Ability: Run Away (Enables sure escape from wild Pokémon) Aptitude: Deep Green Moves: Tackle (Proficient), Disable (Proficient), Supersonic (Proficient), Confusion (Proficient), Poison Powder (Proficient), Stun Spore (Proficient), Sleep Powder (Proficient), Psybeam (Proficient), Psychic (Proficient), Bug Buzz (Beginner), Bug Bite (Beginner), Toxic (Beginner), Acid Spray (Beginner)

Wen Qi hadn’t expected Venonat to learn moves so quickly. It seemed that Pokémon with psychic talent had stronger comprehension. Having spent time in areas abundant with Bug and Poison types, Venonat had also picked up two new Bug and Poison moves. Watching Venonat train earnestly, Wen Qi felt a surge of emotion. Venonat usually seemed so timid, but once it started training, it gave its all. Wen Qi understood why Venonat worked so hard: partly to repay his care, and partly because it longed to become strong and avoid being bullied in the breeding house like before. Seeing Venonat’s dedication filled Wen Qi with comfort and joy.

Thinking that the training goals had essentially been met, he decided to pack up today and return to the farm tomorrow. So, he said to his three Pokémon, “You’ve worked hard these past few days. Take a good rest today, and we’ll continue training tomorrow.” Turtwig, the clever little one, was thrilled at the news, while Venonat and Horsea exchanged glances, looking a bit unhappy. They secretly continued training, and Wen Qi didn’t say anything when he noticed. After all, with the small world’s support, it wouldn’t harm their bodies. However, he planned to visit the Pokémon Association in the afternoon to register these two Pokémon, as their potential was excellent. He intended to nurture them as main team members for future competitions, making registration necessary for convenience.

After returning from the Pokémon Association in the afternoon, Wen Qi began packing his belongings, and the three little ones eagerly offered to help. However, seeing Turtwig’s short, clumsy limbs, Wen Qi decided to let it play on the side to avoid causing trouble. Horsea, lacking hands altogether, was also gently turned away. Fortunately, Venonat had mastered telekinesis quite well and could assist him. Seeing that it could share some of the work with its owner, Venonat was filled with joy.
