Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Cleaning the Farm

The next morning, sunlight bathed the village, bringing fresh vitality to this tranquil land. The town's engineering team arrived on schedule. Though small in number, the machinery they brought was quite impressive. These machines roared to life, as if warming up for the day's work, adding a touch of modernity to the entire village. To Wen Qi's surprise, the team also included many Pokémon. Machokes, with their muscular builds and astonishing strength, seemed ready to showcase their skills and contribute to the farm's renovation. Conkeldurrs appeared calm and reserved, their deep eyes reflecting seriousness and focus, each one like an experienced craftsman. Sandslashes, meanwhile, were eager on the sidelines, their sharp claws and sturdy bodies seemingly capable of handling any digging task, providing strong support for the farm's land preparation.

Seeing this, Wen Qi knew the team was highly capable—no wonder neighboring farms all hired them. He felt a surge of anticipation, believing that with their efforts, his farm would surely be revitalized. Wen Qi noticed the team's leader, Old Zhang, chatting cheerfully with the village elder, both brimming with confidence about the upcoming renovation. Old Zhang spotted Wen Qi, his eyes full of admiration. He stepped forward, patted Wen Qi on the shoulder, and said sincerely, "Mr. Wen Qi, you're truly accomplished at such a young age! Running a farm independently at your age—that takes guts and skill. I'm impressed. You're bound to be a standout, and I believe your farm will thrive more and more!"

Wen Qi felt a bit embarrassed by the praise but responded humbly, "Thank you for the kind words. I'm just carrying on what my parents left behind. The farm's been neglected for too long; I'll leave the rest to you." He knew his farm had many areas needing improvement, and these experienced team members were exactly the help he needed. With that, Wen Qi led the team to the farm. Along the way, the roar of machinery made nearby Pokémon keep their distance, curious yet wary of these modern tools.

Old Zhang frowned at the dilapidated farm but quickly regained his composure, asking Wen Qi, "Mr. Wen, how do you plan to renovate it?" Wen Qi pondered for a moment, then said, "First, fix up the main gate, then clear out the weeds and dead trees. Renovate the villa too. For those rundown sheds and warehouses, if the main structure is still usable, repair them; if not, tear them down and rebuild. That's it for now. We'll see if anything else comes up." His words revealed deep affection for the farm and hopes for its future. Old Zhang nodded, understanding Wen Qi's intent. He estimated the workload and said, "Most of the work should be done in about three days. We'll see how it goes. As for the price, let's settle on 300,000." Wen Qi knew there was much to fix and didn't object to the price. He gave Old Zhang a grateful look and let the team start working. Watching the machines and Pokémon bustling about, Wen Qi felt hopeful.

Wen Qi disliked troubling others. He knew the renovation would take at least three days, and staying at the village elder's house would be inconvenient for him and possibly disturb other villagers. So, he decided to pitch a tent near the farm, using his camping gear to set up a temporary base. At the farm's edge, there was an open area surrounded by green trees, with a gentle breeze—perfect for camping. Wen Qi took out his tent, sleeping bag, and picnic supplies from his backpack, methodically setting up his temporary shelter. After some effort, the tent was ready. Though simple, it was enough to shield him from wind and rain, providing a warm resting space. He also placed some basic insect repellents around the tent to ensure a peaceful night's sleep.

As night fell, Wen Qi lit a portable lamp, its soft glow illuminating the tent's interior. He took out some dry rations and fruit for a simple dinner. After eating, he sat outside the tent, gazing at the starry sky, soaking in the tranquility and beauty of nature. On this land far from the noise, Wen Qi felt he'd found a spiritual home, deeply immersed under the stars. During these three days of camping, Wen Qi spent his days busy with farm renovations and his nights resting in the tent. Though conditions were tough, he enjoyed it. He felt this camping experience brought him closer to nature and made him cherish every moment of life.

Three days later, the farm was renovated. Wen Qi packed up his camping gear, ready to leave. He looked back at the land that had accompanied him for three nights, feeling reluctant to part. This land had witnessed his hard work and sweat, as well as his days striving alongside Pokémon. Though parting was near, Wen Qi knew this wasn't an end but a new beginning. He walked to the renovated farm gate, and everything before him felt brand new. The once-dilapidated gate, carefully restored, had regained its former glory, as if heralding a new chapter for the farm. Entering, he was delighted to find the weeds and dead trees gone, replaced by a lush green lawn full of life. The grass swayed gently in the breeze, as if showing off its new attire. The villa, too, shone with renewed brilliance after repairs—walls painted spotless white, windows replaced with new ones, sunlight streaming through to make the interior warm and bright. Wen Qi could imagine how pleasant it would be to spend a leisurely afternoon there. The previously simple warehouse had also been transformed, becoming more spacious and practical, with farm tools and odds and ends neatly arranged, everything in order.

Wen Qi was very satisfied with the new farm and happily paid Old Zhang the remaining balance. As Old Zhang left, he said to Wen Qi, "If you ever need any more repairs, just call me. I'll make sure it's done beautifully." Wen Qi nodded gratefully, knowing the success of this renovation owed much to Old Zhang and the team's hard work. After everyone left, Wen Qi stood in the empty farm, the earlier roar of machinery gone, feeling a bit lonely. But when he saw the Pidgey and Turtwig at his feet, he felt reassured. He knew these Pokémon would accompany him, guarding this land and witnessing its growth and change.

Though the villa had been renovated, Wen Qi didn't plan to move in immediately. He intended to let the house air out for a while and move in only when everything was ready. After all, this was a new beginning—he needed to create a comfortable and cozy home for himself and his Pokémon. But the villa was empty inside. Wen Qi thought for a moment, then picked up the phone to contact the earlier mall, asking them to deliver goods while also purchasing some furniture and appliances. This expense cost him several hundred thousand more. Watching his dwindling savings in the account, Wen Qi knew it was time to work hard and earn money.
