Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Reluctant Murphy (2/10)

The matters of the internet, though intricately tied to Yang Yi, couldn't affect him for now. Today's big event for the Yang family was sending Xixi to kindergarten!

Early in the morning, the little girl was in a great mood, not yet realizing how harsh kindergarten could be. She found it novel, and her parents had dressed her up beautifully, like a little princess.

"Put on your backpack, come, let Mommy see. Our Xixi is a big girl now! So pretty?"

Mo Fei's exaggerated tone made Xixi, who was still a bit unused to the backpack, beam with joy. She laughed while shyly twisting her skirt, feeling a little embarrassed.

Yang Yi sat on the armrest of the sofa nearby, smiling helplessly. "Alright, it's almost time. If we don't leave now, we'll be late!"

He wasn't afraid of being late; what he dreaded was the two females—one big, one small—spending ages on dressing up, driving him crazy with the wait!

Mo Fei had gotten up early and spent a long time on her own makeup and grooming. Yang Yi was speechless, saying, "You're not even sending Xixi into the kindergarten; you'll be in the car the whole time. Why bother dressing up?"

The result of that complaint was predictable...

Then, Mo Fei brushed Xixi's hair, styled it, picked out clothes, changed them, chose shoes, swapped them—after all that fuss, Yang Yi had waited over an hour...

Now, Mo Fei was still enthusiastically saying to Yang Yi, "Wait a moment!"

She turned and ran to Yang Yi's study, then came pattering back in her slippers, holding Yang Yi's DSLR camera. She shoved it into his hands, laughing. "How can we not take photos to commemorate such an important day?"

So, Yang Yi had to take beautiful pictures of them, and Mo Fei even made him set the timer so the whole family could gather together for a group shot.

This whole ordeal took another twenty minutes. It was almost too late before Mo Fei reluctantly let Yang Yi usher them into the car.

The route to kindergarten went around Tingshan. On the way, Mo Fei was still reviewing the photos Yang Yi had taken.

After months of practice, Yang Yi's portrait photography skills had improved significantly. Mo Fei was satisfied, but there were still a few things she thought weren't great. "Xixi, why do you always make a peace sign in every photo?"

"Huh?" The little girl looked at her mother in confusion, not quite understanding.

Mo Fei mimicked the peace sign from the photo of Xixi, laughing. "See, you always pose like this. Every single photo is the same—it's not nice!"

"Daddy taught me!" Xixi said, sitting in her child seat, grabbing her mother's arm to look at the photos too.

"So your daddy is expressionless in all his photos!" Mo Fei said mercilessly.

Yang Yi gave a faint, wry smile from the front but didn't mind.

"You need to learn how to pose from Mommy. I'll teach you—you can make expressions like this!" Mo Fei was showing Xixi how to act cute, puffing out her cheeks and widening her eyes, then resting her chin on her hand, and making a surprised round mouth.

"And this one!" Mo Fei laughed, making a fist with her right hand and placing it by her cheek, then puffing out her cheeks.

"Giggle, giggle!" Xixi couldn't even focus on learning, laughing nonstop at her mother. "Daddy, look! Mommy looks just like a cat!"

Yang Yi glanced at the rearview mirror, catching Mo Fei's cute pose. The corners of his mouth lifted, and he smiled silently.

...

Soon, the car reached the kindergarten street. Outside the kindergarten, there were many cars clogging the road, since this was a villa area with plenty of wealthy people.

Seeing that they couldn't squeeze through anytime soon, Yang Yi pulled the Ba Lang over to the side.

"I'll take Xixi in. You wait in the car," Yang Yi said, reaching for the bag in the passenger seat—it contained Xixi's little backpack and a small bag with enrollment documents. He hesitated for a moment before asking, "Mo Fei, are you sure you don't want to come along?"

Mo Fei hesitated, then shook her head. "Forget it. If I get recognized, Xixi won't have any peace at kindergarten."

But Mo Fei felt a pang of sadness inside. She couldn't even be part of such an important moment for Xixi. As she unbuckled the little girl's seatbelt, her eyes involuntarily reddened.

"Xixi, be good, listen to the teacher, okay?" Mo Fei's voice was slightly choked as she pressed her forehead against her daughter's, speaking gently.

Xixi nodded blankly, still not realizing anything was wrong with going to kindergarten. The little girl just thought she might meet lots of new friends, feeling a bit nervous, yet also excited about the novelty of kindergarten!

Mo Fei didn't want her emotions to affect Xixi, so she forced a smile, ruffled her daughter's hair, and opened the door near the sidewalk.

"Say goodbye to Mommy." Yang Yi got out too, taking Xixi's hand.

Xixi obediently waved at Mo Fei. "Goodbye, Mommy!"

"Goodbye, Mommy will be waiting for you at home!" Mo Fei held back tears, waving at Xixi. She felt more worried about her daughter going to kindergarten than when she went to her father's house, because at least Yang Yi was there to take care of her!

Yang Yi might be unreliable in other things, but he had never let her down when it came to caring for her daughter!

Mo Fei half-opened the car door, watching Yang Yi carry Xixi's little backpack and lead her toward the kindergarten, her heart tightening.

Even after closing the door, Mo Fei still looked out through the window.

Suddenly, Yang Yi stopped. Mo Fei tensed up. "What's wrong? Did they forget something?"

No, Yang Yi crouched down and helped Xixi put on her little backpack. Just as he turned sideways, Mo Fei could see the smile blooming on Xixi's face—the little one was showing off again!

Watching Yang Yi lead Xixi into the kindergarten, Mo Fei reluctantly looked away.

Originally, Mo Fei had planned to drop Xixi off at kindergarten and then head straight to the company to start preparing for her new album.

But now, it seemed Mo Fei felt that if she couldn't see Xixi come back tonight, she wouldn't be able to focus on anything else!

So, after a moment's hesitation, Mo Fei pulled out her phone and called Mo Xiaojuan. "Xiaojuan, I'm not coming back today... Yeah, Xixi went to kindergarten, but I feel really unsettled... I'll stay at Yang Yi's place today. I'll have him take me back tomorrow."

Mo Xiaojuan had originally arranged some things for Mo Fei, like meeting the new producer assigned by the company.

But she tossed aside her notepad, chuckled meaningfully, and said, "Sis, I get it. Xixi's not home, right? No worries, there's nothing urgent at the company. You can stay a couple more days!"

Mo Fei thought her cousin's tone sounded odd, but she didn't have the mind to dwell on it. "Mm," she replied, and hung up.
