Chapter 146: Su Banxia, Who’s That?
"Check, please!"
She shouted angrily, pulling out a thick stack of RMB and tossing it at the waiter before storming off.
At the Su residence, Su's mother was posing in front of the mirror with a newly bought handbag. Su Sinian stormed into her room, her face dark.
"Mom! I saw Su Banxia!"
She complained to the woman in front of the mirror.
Su's mother was completely out of it, her eyes only on the designer bags. "Su Banxia? Who’s that?"
Aside from the surname Su being somewhat similar to theirs, she didn’t find the name particularly noteworthy.
Su Sinian was taken aback. Logically, Su's mother should be the one who remembered her best, yet she acted like a complete stranger.
"You don’t even recognize her? The woman you went after back then!"
Su Sinian was furious. She had already embarrassed herself enough at the restaurant, making a fool of herself in front of Su Banxia. She had expected to come home and vent to her mother, only to find she had completely forgotten!
At the mention of the person she had targeted, Su's mother had a faint recollection. "That wild girl your father picked up?"
She finally put down the handbag and turned to look at her seriously. She remembered that wild girl had disappeared six years ago.
"Yes!"
Su's mother was indifferent. How could someone who had vanished for six years suddenly reappear? "Didn’t she disappear long ago?"
Seeing her mother’s calm demeanor, as if she had already moved on, Su Sinian grew angry. "She’s back."
"What are you worried about? You’re the real daughter of the Su family. She’s just a wild girl—I’ll never let her set foot in the Su household!"
She picked up the handbag again, comparing it, completely unconcerned.
Su Sinian let out a cold laugh. "Ha, just wait until your precious son-in-law becomes Su Banxia’s man!"
She knew her mother valued the Pei family’s status and had long hoped she would marry into it. But if she found out how close Su Banxia and Pei Shaoze were, she would never allow it.
Just as she expected, hearing this, Su's mother turned serious. "What’s going on!"
The Pei family’s daughter-in-law could only be her daughter!
If Su Banxia somehow slipped in, she would be the first to refuse.
Seeing the hatred for Su Banxia ignite in her mother’s eyes, Su Sinian breathed a sigh of relief. Having her mother’s help was better than going it alone.
"Mom, last time I accidentally overheard Dad talking with the Pei family. They said Pei Shaoze mentioned me to Old Master Pei, talking about an engagement. Did you know?"
She had overheard it by chance. The Pei family had made it clear—it was about the Su family’s daughter. And in the Su family, that could only be her, Su Sinian.
Though she had no idea why Pei Shaoze would take an interest in her, she was secretly thrilled. She had been waiting for her father to bring it up, but there had been no news.
At Su Sinian’s words, Su's mother thought carefully but shook her head. "I don’t know about that. What’s going on? Are you sure you didn’t mishear? Your father wouldn’t hide this from me."
Su's mother clearly didn’t believe it. If it were true, her father would have discussed it with her immediately. Besides, who wouldn’t want to be connected to the Pei family?
"I didn’t mishear, I swear. Even though I’ve only met Shaoze a few times for work, I don’t know what he sees in me. But today, as soon as Su Banxia showed up, Pei Shaoze’s attitude toward me did a complete 180!"
Just thinking about today made her furious. If it weren’t for that woman, Pei Shaoze wouldn’t have been so cold to her, even pretending not to know her!
"Ah... easy! Easy!"
A scream came from the villa, making it sound like Pei Shaoze was doing something to her.
Pei Shaoze’s face darkened as he looked up at Su Banxia, anger clear in his eyes. "Su Banxia, are you trying to lose something on this bed?"
Her screams, like a wolf’s howl, stirred something in him.
That one sentence made Su Banxia shiver violently, shaking her head frantically.
She knew exactly what Pei Shaoze meant, and a blush crept onto her face. She didn’t want to lose anything!
Watching the man carefully applying medicine to her, Su Banxia felt a flutter in her heart. He had carried her all the way back just to tend to her wounds...
"I told you not to run around, but you wouldn’t listen! Now it’s even more swollen than before."
He was angry, clearly upset that she didn’t take care of herself.
Su Banxia felt wronged too. If Su Sinian hadn’t used her father as an excuse, she wouldn’t have limped over to see her!
"I didn’t mean to. When can I leave? Guoguo and Haohao must miss me."
It had only been a day, and she already wanted to see her two little ones. But she didn’t want them to worry.
Pei Shaoze glanced at her, then continued carefully applying medicine to her foot, saying flatly, "Sorry to disappoint you, but I gave Fang Shiqing the day off to take the kids to the amusement park. They’re probably having a blast right now. Why would they miss you?"
Su Banxia froze. Amusement park?
She quickly pulled out her phone and saw Fang Shiqing had sent her photos from the park. Guoguo looked thrilled, while Haohao, as usual, remained unflappable.
"Amusement park? It’s not even the weekend!"
It wasn’t a holiday or a weekend—why would Fang Shiqing take them to an amusement park?
Seeing Su Banxia’s accusatory look, Pei Shaoze shrugged. "I figured you wouldn’t want your little ones to skip school for fun, so I just had the school declare a holiday today."
Su Banxia’s eyes widened. So Pei Shaoze could use his money for this too!
"Pei Shaoze!"
She shouted his name angrily, furious at his audacity.
Hearing her call him, Pei Shaoze looked up, his face dark. "What?"
His icy tone made Su Banxia immediately back down. She forced a smile. "Nothing! It’s fine!"
Pei Shaoze snorted, said nothing more, and walked out.
Seeing this, Su Banxia quickly dialed Fang Shiqing’s number, fuming. Pei Shaoze was being ridiculous, but how could she go along with it?
"Banxia, how’s it going? Did the contract negotiation go well?"
Fang Shiqing’s first words stunned Su Banxia. What contract? She was supposed to be recovering from an injury!
She realized then that Pei Shaoze had set this up. She couldn’t exactly say she was injured and being kept hidden by the Pei boss, could she? Claiming she was on a business trip was actually a decent excuse.
"Yeah, it’s okay. I heard from Pei that he gave the whole school a day off and gave you time off too, so you could take Guoguo and Haohao to the amusement park?"
She glossed over the business trip and focused on the amusement park outing.
She was actually relieved she hadn’t let the kids acknowledge their father. Otherwise, Pei Shaoze might buy the whole school just to spoil them.
Fang Shiqing didn’t seem to notice Su Banxia’s anger, her tone still cheerful. "Yeah, Guoguo’s having a blast! Haohao doesn’t show it, but you can tell he’s in a good mood. The only downside is you’re not here."
"Godmother, is that Mommy?"
The little girl’s voice warmed Su Banxia’s heart, instantly melting her anger.
Fang Shiqing handed the phone to Guoguo, letting the mother-daughter duo catch up, while adding, "That’s right, your mom’s work is going smoothly, so don’t worry!"
