Chapter 49: Pei Shaoze, You Bastard
Pei Shaoze sat up straight, his slender, jade-like frame leaning back against the chair, his dark eyes thoughtful.
If he used this kind of cold-shoulder treatment to force her to leave, would she give in?
He wasn’t sure.
“Boom…”
Thunder rumbled outside the window.
It was the rainy season in June, so the downpour came without warning.
Su Banxia had just driven her car not far when the pitch-black sky began to pour rain, large droplets pattering down.
Her driving skills weren’t great, and after years abroad, she’d gotten used to driving on the right.
Suddenly back in the country, things still felt a bit off.
She drove cautiously all the way to the restaurant Pei Shaoze had mentioned. She hadn’t brought an umbrella, and the parking lot was open-air.
By the time she ran from the car into the restaurant, her clothes were soaked.
The restaurant wasn’t crowded—probably because it was late, so no one was around. Su Banxia stood at the front counter to order.
She looked a bit out of place, her clothes completely drenched, making her seem quite disheveled.
What’s more, she hadn’t asked Pei Shaoze what he wanted to eat before coming. Just as she was about to call him, she realized with frustration that she’d left her phone in the office when she left.
And she had no idea what Pei Shaoze wanted to eat.
She hesitated at the counter for a while until the front desk server asked what she’d like to order. Only then did she grab the menu and casually pick a few dishes.
She was getting takeout.
Since her clothes were wet, she couldn’t sit on the restaurant’s sofa, so she stood off to the side to wait.
She stood there for quite a while before the food was ready.
When she paid and headed out, the rain hadn’t stopped—it had only gotten heavier.
But there was no choice; she had to go.
She jogged to the car, started it, and drove off from the restaurant. Su Banxia belatedly realized that if she took the same route back, she might have to go through a tunnel. With the heavy rain, if she went through the tunnel, it would likely be flooded.
Her car had a low chassis, and if the tunnel flooded, the engine might stall.
But it was too late to turn back now—she was already on the highway and couldn’t reverse. Even though there were few cars on the road, it was too dangerous.
Now, all she could do was pray the tunnel wouldn’t flood too much and that she could get through safely.
But as the saying goes, whatever you fear most will come to pass.
So, unfortunately, Su Banxia’s car stalled as she was going through the tunnel.
The tunnel was long, and most of it was flooded.
The rain outside was getting heavier. If Su Banxia stayed in the car, the tunnel might flood so much that both she and the car would be submerged.
With no other option, she got out and started walking toward the tunnel exit.
The long tunnel was so flooded that the water reached her knees, making every step difficult.
She finally made it to the tunnel exit, only to find no cars on the road at all.
Right—on a stormy night like this, only someone as careless as her would take the tunnel.
Her clothes were completely soaked. She couldn’t stay there waiting for a ride, so she had to keep walking. The rain poured harder, thunder and lightning following one after another.
Su Banxia groaned inwardly, hoping she wouldn’t get struck by lightning—otherwise, dying like that would be ridiculous.
She finally reached an intersection where there were cars. Standing by the roadside, she waved to flag one down.
But the rain was so heavy that no one dared to stop.
…
Dingsheng Building.
CEO’s Office.
Pei Shaoze stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the thunder, lightning, wind, and rain outside.
His handsome brows were tightly furrowed.
A flicker of worry crept into his heart. After waiting a long time without seeing Su Banxia, he pulled out his phone to call her.
But to his dismay, her ringtone went off on her desk.
“Damn it!”
Pei Shaoze couldn’t help cursing, tossing his phone aside.
He grabbed another set of car keys and headed straight to the company’s underground garage.
How brainless could this woman be, leaving without her phone?
Driving out of the company, Pei Shaoze tried to guess which route Su Banxia might have taken.
Calculating the time, she must have run into trouble on the road, which was why she hadn’t come back.
Afraid of missing her, Pei Shaoze drove slowly the whole way. The rain kept pouring, and searching for someone in such weather was incredibly difficult.
It was easy to have an accident.
Su Banxia hadn’t managed to hail a ride. Her clothes were drenched, and the rain kept falling. Before long, she had no strength left to walk.
She crouched by the roadside, curling up her small frame. If passing drivers weren’t paying attention, they wouldn’t even notice someone there.
When Pei Shaoze found her, what he saw was her huddled by the road, rain soaking her completely.
Wet hair covered her face, making her look utterly miserable.
Seeing her like this, Pei Shaoze’s heart clenched sharply with pain.
He drove closer to her. Seeing that she hadn’t even found shelter from the rain but was just foolishly squatting by the roadside, he felt a surge of inexplicable anger.
This woman was really an idiot.
Su Banxia noticed a car pulling up beside her. Lifting her eyes slightly, she saw a black Mustang stop in front of her.
On the verge of passing out, she didn’t hesitate. She walked to the car, opened the door, and got in.
Seeing Pei Shaoze’s dark, handsome face, the wariness she’d felt completely dissolved.
She slumped against the seat and closed her eyes.
Pei Shaoze glanced at her, still annoyed. He started the car and said coldly, “You saw it was my car?”
Su Banxia kept her eyes closed and replied, “No.”
“You get into anyone’s car?”
“Yeah.”
She didn’t have the energy to argue back. Her head felt heavy, and soon after leaning against the seat, she drifted off.
Pei Shaoze had planned to take her back to the company, but when he felt her burning hot body, he stepped on the gas and headed straight for Yicheng Shanshui instead.
When the car stopped at Yicheng Shanshui, Su Banxia’s head throbbed badly. Feeling the car halt, she looked around.
Seeing Pei Shaoze open the door and lift her out, she frowned and said, “I can walk myself. Where is this?”
“Shut up!”
He snapped at her, then carried her straight to the second-floor bedroom.
Su Banxia had been here before, so she recognized it as his villa.
Nervously, she said, “Pei Shaoze, why are you bringing me here? I want to go home!”
She was burning up with fever, bold enough to call him by his full name.
Carrying her into the bedroom, he noticed she was soaked through and dumped her directly into the bathroom.
He ordered coldly, “Take a shower.”
Su Banxia was a bit confused and protested, “I don’t want to. Pei Shaoze, I want to go home!”
“Take a shower.”
He gave her two words and turned to leave.
But Su Banxia suddenly dropped to the floor, grabbing his leg and looking up at him. “Pei Shaoze, I want to go home. Take me home, or I won’t let this go!”
She was clearly delirious, her words tinged with childish stubbornness.
Her cheeks were flushed, and her gaze was unfocused.
Seeing her like this, Pei Shaoze softened his tone. He crouched down, picked her up, and said, “Take a shower. Once you’ve showered and feel better, I’ll take you back.”
His tone was almost coaxing.
Su Banxia still wouldn’t give in. Frowning, she kept fussing, “No, I want to go home now, right now. Pei Shaoze, you bastard!”
