She stood at the door, unsure whether to leave or stay, her own face burning with embarrassment. Yet, for some reason, an inexplicable pang of bitterness crept into her heart, and the scene from six years ago flashed before her eyes again. But looking at herself and Pei Shaoze now, they seemed like people from two entirely different worlds.
"Hmph!"
Suddenly, the woman inside stormed out, fuming. "Old hag, using such tricks to interrupt us, do you think you'll get away with it?"
Get away with it? Yeah, right.
Su Banxia had no desire to make enemies for no reason, so she immediately played the victim. "You've misunderstood. I'm already a mother of two. I'm just here to work hard, nothing else on my mind. Look at me—there's no way the CEO would ever take an interest in someone like me!"
The woman glared at Su Banxia, scrutinizing her from head to toe. Su Banxia spread her arms wide, openly displaying her outdated suit, and even pushed up the thick, clunky glasses on her nose for good measure. Facts spoke louder than words, and Su Banxia's skill at deliberately making herself look plain was impressive. The woman snorted, "I doubt you'd dare!"
With that, she clicked her high heels and swayed away like a water snake.
Having dealt with one problem, Su Banxia stole a glance at the CEO's office door. The real trouble was inside—a ticking time bomb! A morning rendezvous in the office like that—men really are creatures driven by their lower halves... Su Banxia grumbled inwardly.
"Come in!"
Su Banxia hurried inside. "CEO..."
The curtains over the floor-to-ceiling windows were drawn, casting the room in dim light, still thick with a hint of lingering intimacy—warm and carrying a peculiar scent. The moment Su Banxia recalled the scene she'd witnessed...
She felt unsettled.
"What did you just see?"
Pei Shaoze narrowed his eyes, his tone laced with danger.
Su Banxia quickly shook her head, insisting she hadn't seen a thing.
Pei Shaoze's suit was still intact, though slightly wrinkled. He stood up and stepped closer to Su Banxia, one step at a time. With each step he took, her heartbeat quickened, but Pei Shaoze seemed to do it on purpose, drawing nearer without any sign of stopping.
Until he cornered her against the wall.
The cold touch against her back made Su Banxia tense up entirely. As Pei Shaoze's handsome face loomed closer, she thrust out a hand and pressed it firmly against his chest.
"What's wrong?"
Pei Shaoze squinted at her, as if he could see right through her.
"I... I'm going to get to work..."
Her heart racing, Su Banxia covered her mouth and mumbled this vaguely, trying to escape. But before she could take two steps, Pei Shaoze yanked her back to her original spot, trapping her completely with his outstretched arms.
The momentum sent her glasses flying to the side.
Su Banxia immediately reached up to adjust them, but she was a fraction of a second too late.
In that fleeting glimpse, Pei Shaoze was struck by the clarity of her eyes.
His gaze locked onto her glasses.
"Why do you always wear glasses?"
He reached out to take them off, but Su Banxia panicked and blocked him. The moment their fingertips touched, a strange sensation flickered through Pei Shaoze's heart.
"I'm extremely nearsighted!"
Su Banxia quickly explained. "Without my glasses, I can't see a thing."
"Is that so?"
Pei Shaoze raised an eyebrow at her guilty expression. "What if I told you to take them off?"
