Chapter 90: Chapter 90: That's Why I Want to Be Friends with You

Pei Shaoze's anger had not subsided, his chest full of fury with nowhere to vent. He smashed everything in the room he could break.

Su Banxia had no idea why he had suddenly become so violent.

She was so frightened that she curled up in the corner.

Pei Shaoze shot her a cold glare and roared, "Get out!"

Without a second thought, Su Banxia stumbled out of the bedroom.

She fled all the way out of the Pei residence.

By then, the guests in the hall had all left. The Pei family lived in a luxury mansion district, where it was impossible to hail a cab.

But at that moment, Su Banxia couldn't bear to stay there for even a second.

Leaving the Pei house, she jogged back along the path she had come from.

Her phone and bag were nowhere to be found.

But right then, those things didn't matter.

She was terrified by Pei Shaoze's brutality. In her rush to get out, she hadn't put on shoes.

After walking a good distance, Su Banxia's feet hurt, and she realized she wasn't wearing any shoes.

She had thought that if she kept walking along the road, she'd eventually run into a taxi, but Su Banxia was really overthinking it.

On that road, there wasn't a single car, let alone a taxi.

She had no idea how vast this luxury district was, so she could only keep walking step by step.

Silently praying that a car would pass by and that she'd meet a kind-hearted person.

After a long while, she heard the sound of a car behind her. Su Banxia's heart leaped with joy, and she turned around, waving at the approaching vehicle.

She didn't know if the car would stop, but she had to try.

Fortunately, as she kept waving, the car did pull over.

Su Banxia felt a sense of flattered surprise. The car stopped beside her, and the window rolled down.

Pei Shaoyin stuck her head out from inside the car. "Miss Su, get in!"

Su Banxia froze for a moment, a bit taken aback.

But this wasn't the time to be coy. She nodded and got into the car.

Pei Shaoyin started the engine, glanced sideways at her, and asked, "What happened between you and my brother?"

In the middle of the night, he didn't send his own girlfriend home but made her do it instead.

Su Banxia didn't know why she had come, but hearing that, she guessed a bit—probably Pei Shaoze had sent her to give Su Banxia a ride.

She looked out the car window and said softly, "Nothing."

Knowing Pei Shaoze's nature, he wouldn't have told Pei Shaoyin about company matters; otherwise, Pei Shaoyin wouldn't be here driving her now.

Pei Shaoze indeed hadn't mentioned anything about the company to her.

When Second Master Pei opened the birthday gift Lin Tongze had sent, both he and Old Master Pei flew into a rage.

But they only asked Pei Shaoze why Lin Tongze knew so much about Dingsheng.

What Pei Shaoze thought of was Su Banxia. He had always known that from the moment she entered Dingsheng, she had an agenda.

But she couldn't access a lot of Dingsheng's data. He had overlooked Lin Tongze's capabilities.

Forgetting that Lin Tongze could deduce so much from what Su Banxia had given him.

Sending those things to Old Master Pei's birthday banquet was clearly a move to strike at the Pei family.

Seeing Su Banxia's distracted response, Pei Shaoyin roughly guessed seven or eight out of ten—they must have had a fight.

She was clever and, having figured it out, didn't want to walk into a minefield.

Instead, she asked Su Banxia a different question. "Are you really the daughter of the Su family from West City?"

She couldn't help it; driving was just too boring.

This long stretch of road, not saying a word, was really unsettling.

Besides, Su Banxia might become her sister-in-law one day. Chatting more now would make things easier later, wouldn't it?

Su Banxia remembered that she seemed to have asked this twice already—whether she was the daughter of the West City Su family.

She hadn't paid attention before, but now it caught her interest.

She looked at her and said, "Miss Pei, why do you keep asking me this question?"

Pei Shaoyin drove casually and replied, "I heard that Uncle originally planned to have that delicate Miss Ye from the Ye family marry my brother, but later he went along with my brother's choice, saying that since you're at least the daughter of the West City Su family, from a scholarly household, your manners and upbringing would be far better than the Ye family's."

She paused, then nodded to herself. "But I think you're pretty good too. Not because of your family background, but compared to Ye Lan, that brainless, lying, domineering woman, you're much better. Having you marry my brother wouldn't be bad either!"

Su Banxia was dumbfounded.

Her marry Pei Shaoze?

She was the daughter of the West City Su family?

How did she not know?

"How do you know I'm the daughter of the West City Su family?" Su Banxia couldn't help asking.

Pei Shaoyin looked at the road ahead, driving as she spoke. "That's easy to figure out. In all of Yanshi, there aren't many families with the surname Su. The only one worthy of my brother is the West City Su family."

Su Banxia: "..."

"Are you so sure your brother wouldn't fall for another Su daughter? There are more Su families in Yanshi than just the West City one!"

At a red light, Pei Shaoyin stopped the car and looked at her. "If it were another Su family, my uncle would find every way to break them up. After all, not just anyone can get through the Pei family's door!"

Su Banxia almost laughed.

Good thing she had never thought of marrying Pei Shaoze. Otherwise, with her identity, she'd probably be looked down upon by the Pei family in no time!

Looking at Pei Shaoyin, Su Banxia said, "Miss Pei, I think you've misunderstood. I'm not the daughter of the West City Su family. I'm just an ordinary Su from Yanshi. I'm not dating President Pei, let alone marrying him. I'm just his secretary—and one who could be fired at any moment!"

Pei Shaoyin was stunned, a bit confused.

She stared at her. "You're not from the West City Su family?"

Su Banxia nodded. "Mm."

Though she didn't know why Pei Shaoze had let Old Master Pei have that mistaken impression, she had no intention of marrying Pei Shaoze. Forget marriage—she didn't even want to date him.

The violent streak in this man—please forgive her, but she couldn't accept it.

Pei Shaoyin took a breath, blinked a few times, and looked at her. "So you're saying you're not interested in my brother?"

Su Banxia nodded.

Oh wow!

Pei Shaoyin got a bit excited. So there really was someone in Yanshi who didn't fancy Pei Shaoze?

In her excitement, she grabbed Su Banxia's arm and said eagerly, "Why don't you like my brother? Isn't he handsome? Not rich enough? Not tall enough? Not good enough in bed?"

Su Banxia: "..."

She had to admit, Pei Shaoyin was a piece of work, really.

"Pei Shaoze, you've misunderstood. It's that I'm not good enough for President Pei," Su Banxia said, trying to keep her composure.

Pei Shaoyin obviously didn't buy that nonsense. She looked at Su Banxia and said, "I think we're kindred spirits. How about we be friends from now on?"

Su Banxia: "???"

Wasn't this train of thought moving a bit too fast?

Seeing her silent, Pei Shaoyin continued, "To be honest, ever since I was born, all the friends I've made were because of my brother. Those girls wanted to chase after him, so they went out of their way to befriend me. Basically, they were all after my brother!"

Su Banxia nodded and looked at her. "So..."

"So, I want to be friends with you!" Pei Shaoyin said with a laugh. "Let me put it this way: the women who were friends with me before would cut ties if they didn't get close to my brother. It was so damn boring. Since you don't like my brother, our friendship won't be ruined by him!"

Su Banxia found Pei Shaoyin's way of thinking truly unique.

It really wasn't how a normal person thought.

She smiled, not really knowing what to say.

Still, this girl was straightforward and endearing.
