Gu Changye turned to look at Shen Yunyun.
Shen Yunyun immediately stepped forward. "I'll give you ten thousand. Just make sure his scenes are shot well and with care."
The director: "..."
The screenwriter: "..."
Everyone else: "..."
Gu Changye was quickly taken to change clothes and get his makeup done. Originally, they planned to just do a half-hearted job, making it passable. But now that they'd been paid ten thousand, they had to make it look proper. So they put much more effort into the costumes and styling.
When he came out after makeup, he looked like a *tanhua* (top scholar) who had stepped straight out of a painting, and he seemed much younger too. Gu Changye was already in his thirties, but at this moment, he looked like a young man in his early twenties.
Most crucially, when he looked at Lin Mengxing, his eyes were filled with an unmistakable fondness. No wonder people said you can't hide the look of love in someone's eyes.
Gu Changye had been in the antique business, so he had a deep understanding of ancient culture. He barely needed any guidance; his etiquette was nearly flawless. Even the precise stride of a *tanhua* walking was something he nailed perfectly. This surprised the director immensely.
During the acting, the loving gaze, the puzzled look, and finally the dejected, drowning-sorrows-in-drink expression—his emotions were spot-on, rivaling a professional actor. The director forgot to call "cut" for a moment.
Gu Changye and Lin Mengxing were both immersed in their roles, but coming out of it proved difficult. After wrapping up, both of them were in low spirits. It felt as if they had seen this scene somewhere before. Their hearts ached.
The three of them went to eat. Sensing the tense atmosphere, Shen Yunyun tried to lighten the mood, speaking casually: "Sister Mengxing, how they bullied you was way too much. Pick a script later, and I'll fund it. You'll be the lead actress."
Lin Mengxing's eyes lit up. "I just happen to be reading a historical romance novel. I think an adaptation would be great."
"Really? Recommend it to me. I'll take a look too."
Lin Mengxing immediately picked up her phone and shared a novel with Shen Yunyun. "The female lead even shares the same name as you," she said while forwarding it.
Shen Yunyun opened the novel and saw the female lead named Shen Yunyun and the male lead Tang Hanshen. She was stunned. Could it be this coincidental? She quickly clicked on the synopsis to read. It turned out to be a time-travel novel—the female lead travels to ancient times, where modern and ancient ideas clash, and they eventually end up together. Thankfully, it had nothing to do with her.
Just as Shen Yunyun thought this, she caught sight of Xu Zimo's name—a celestial-like national advisor and a young empress dowager forming a couple. "Yunyun, what's wrong?" Lin Mengxing noticed her pale expression and asked with concern.
Shen Yunyun snapped back to reality and quickly said, "I got lost in reading for a moment. I read the synopsis, and it seems good. If it can be adapted, let's do it. I'll put up the money."
"I'll chip in too," Gu Changye said.
Shen Yunyun added, "We can also get Tang Yu to contribute some funds, and Xiao Heng—he's loaded."
Lin Mengxing immediately raised her glass to toast them. This was an unexpected blessing. She was sure this script would be a huge hit. These investors wouldn't lose money in the long run.
With this distraction, Lin Mengxing and Gu Changye had snapped out of their roles. The earlier gloom had dissipated.
Back at the hotel, Shen Yunyun's mind couldn't settle. She opened the novel Lin Mengxing had recommended and started reading. Thankfully, it was pure coincidence—not her past life or anything. Otherwise, she'd start questioning her existence.
