Chapter 145: We Are All Monsters (Part 1)
After eating, Chen Ge carried the bed board back to the staff break room. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Xu Wan crouching by the entrance.
"What are you doing?"
"Boss, when did you get a cat! It's so beautiful, but it won't let me touch it!" Xu Wan said reluctantly. "I really want to pet it."
"Don't even think about it. This cat is a stray and a bit hostile to humans." Chen Ge entered the room and put the bed board back in place. The cat saw him coming but didn't bristle—it just jumped aside disdainfully.
"Then why doesn't it hate you?" Xu Wan was puzzled. Every time she got close to the white cat, it would assume an attacking posture.
"Maybe it also thinks I'm a trustworthy person of high moral character." Sitting on the bed, Chen Ge stretched. "Do you want to rest for a bit?"
"Forget it, you sleep. I'll call you at 1:15." Xu Wan looked longingly at the white cat. "What's its name?"
"I gave it a lot of names, but it didn't react to any of them. Finally, when I called it White Tiger, it got really agitated. I'm considering just calling it White Tiger from now on." Chen Ge looked at the white cat, seriously pondering.
"You named a cat White Tiger?" Xu Wan felt her worldview was being severely challenged. "Alright, whatever makes you happy."
After Xu Wan left, Chen Ge looked at the white cat on the chair and felt a headache coming on.
This cat could see those unclean things, and even ghosts at Xiao Xiao's level were afraid of it. If used well, this cat could become a trump card for Chen Ge. But it was also a living being with its own consciousness, and making it obey in a short time was difficult.
After a night of磨合, the white cat was no longer as hostile to Chen Ge. This cat was very smart; it could tell who was good to it and who was bad.
"Your kittens are gone. Even if you keep guarding their bodies, nothing will change." Chen Ge thought for a long time, then got up and picked up the basket. The white cat followed behind him. One person and one cat walked out of the staff break room and arrived at the haunted house entrance.
Digging the soil beside the绿化 tree with his hands, Chen Ge placed the kittens inside. As he did this, he kept an eye on the white cat, afraid it might suddenly go crazy.
"I understand your pain, and I know how important these kittens are to you, but you need to understand one thing." Chen Ge crouched on the ground, slowly pushing the soil from both sides into the pit. "Life is the起点 of death, and death is the inevitable归宿 of life. Only by burying the body can the soul achieve immortality."
He didn't know if the white cat understood him. The cat just stared at the pit, watching the four kittens gradually being covered by soil, its heterochromatic pupils flickering gently.
It didn't attack Chen Ge, nor did it lose its mind. It remained calm throughout.
When Chen Ge sprinkled the last handful of soil, the white cat lay down in the tree pit, not reacting no matter how Chen Ge called it.
It wasn't until the afternoon break was over and tourists began to increase that the white cat left the tree pit and leaped into the canopy.
Chen Ge couldn't do much about the cat. He simply cleaned up and started the afternoon business.
A new two-star scene had been added. To experience this new scene, many tourists lined up again after coming out of Midnight Escape and the other scenes. The tiered horror scene system was already showing results.
What you can't have makes you want it more. For a specific group seeking thrills, the unknown and mysterious new scene had unprecedented appeal.
It wasn't until New Century Paradise closed that the tourists at the haunted house entrance dispersed.
Without time to rest, Chen Ge went with Uncle Xu to retrieve the surveillance equipment from the park's inventory.
He asked Uncle Xu and Xiao Wan to leave first, then entered the Muyang Middle School scene alone and installed surveillance at several key points.
Adjusting the surveillance was more complicated than Chen Ge had anticipated. By the time he finished, it was already eight in the evening.
Washing his face, Chen Ge called Dr. Gao and Wang Hailong, then took a taxi to Haiming Apartment.
When he arrived, Dr. Gao and Wang Hailong had already been waiting downstairs for a long time.
Dr. Gao, mature and steady with unique insights into treating psychological disorders, easily won the favor of the Wang brothers. Without Chen Ge's introduction, they were already chatting like old friends.
"My dad and Shenglong live on the sixth floor. I already told them at noon."
The three entered Haiming Apartment, and Chen Ge frowned slightly. He smelled that faint odor again.
The smell was strongest in a few rooms on the third floor, but others seemed completely unable to detect it—like Wang Hailong and Dr. Gao beside him, who were acting perfectly normal, even discussing the condition.
"What exactly is emitting that smell?" Initially, Chen Ge thought it was the smell of animal carcasses accumulated by the young man in room 302, but those carcasses should have been cleaned up by now. Why hadn't the smell weakened?
Arriving at the top floor, Wang Hailong knocked on the door of room 601.
The door was opened by a man in his fifties, with hair half black and half white, a worried expression on his face.
"Dad, this is the haunted house owner who's had similar experiences, and the other is the best psychologist in Jiangjiang."
"Come in first."
The rental room was filled with various daily necessities, and with so many people entering at once, it felt a bit cramped.
"I already know why you're here. Shenglong is in the bedroom. As long as you can cure his illness, not a single cent of the fee will be missing." This old father looked much older than his actual age.
"Can I go see Wang Shenglong first?" Chen Ge stood at the back. When the door opened, he smelled a strong odor. But strangely, Wang Hailong and Dr. Gao didn't react, as if only he could smell it.
"Alright, but you need to be mentally prepared." Wang Shenglong's father opened the bedroom door.
A stronger smell surged out of the room. Chen Ge lightly placed his fingers on the tip of his nose.
It wasn't an ordinary smell—it was an odor that made him very uncomfortable. The moment he smelled it, his body instinctively wanted to stay away. It was as if a voice was telling him, don't get close, that thing is dangerous.
Standing at the bedroom door and looking inside, the narrow room had no furniture, only a thin blanket on the floor and a few pillows thrown in the corner.
Besides that, the most eye-catching thing was the person sitting in the middle of the room.
He was very short, probably only about 1.45 meters, but extremely fat, with legs already deformed, like a meatball.
Seeing someone come in, he smiled foolishly at the door, laboriously raising his hand as if greeting them.
Every time outsiders saw Wang Shenglong, his father's heart felt like it was being cut with a knife, especially painful. "Shenglong can't speak, but he's normal in other ways. If you want to ask him anything, he'll answer on the drawing board."
