Chu Lingzhi stood up, intending to snatch it back.
Huo Luan moved swiftly, beating her to it by a few steps and taking the plate away.
"Eating too much food made with lard will make you gain weight." Nangong Yehen's gaze swept over her. "Fat women are very unattractive."
"I'm a total foodie, but I never gain weight no matter how much I eat." Chu Lingzhi smiled. "Besides, I don't really care about being attractive or not."
"I don't like fat women!"
"Uh..." Hearing his words, Chu Lingzhi paused in thought for several seconds.
What did he mean?
Was he hinting, in a roundabout way, that he didn't want her to be fat?
Lin Ling lowered her head and glanced at herself. Fortunately, she was slim and not fat at all.
"Come shoot with me." Nangong Yehen stood up, grabbed her arm, and dragged her away from the scene.
Lin Ling watched and followed along.
"You can't go." Huo Luan blocked her.
Lin Ling snapped angrily, "Why can't I go? I want to practice shooting too."
"The shooting range is a restricted area. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed in."
"..." Lin Ling glared at Huo Luan.
Hmph, what an arrogant man. Once she became Nangong Yehen's woman, she'd have him fired first!
Lin Ling watched Nangong Yehen's figure as he and Chu Lingzhi entered the shooting range. She was truly envious of Chu Lingzhi.
"Take this." Nangong Yehen tossed a compact pistol to Chu Lingzhi.
Chu Lingzhi caught it. "It's so light."
"Easy for a girl to carry."
Chu Lingzhi was surprised. "This is for me?"
"Yeah." Nangong Yehen gave her a deep look. "Carry it for self-defense."
Chu Lingzhi looked at the gun in her hand, the corner of her mouth twitching involuntarily.
She was just an ordinary woman—did she really need to carry a gun for self-defense? Wasn't that a bit over the top?
Nangong Yehen seemed to read her mind. "You're no longer the Chu Lingzhi you used to be."
Chu Lingzhi looked up, puzzled. "Why am I not the same Chu Lingzhi?"
Nangong Yehen curled his lips. "You're living in my manor now. Outsiders see you as my woman."
No need to assume—she had indeed slept with him and was already his woman.
"Is being your woman dangerous?"
"It's never one hundred percent safe."
"You might as well just assign a few bodyguards to protect me."
With her mediocre martial arts skills and utterly unskilled marksmanship, if she ever encountered an assassin, she'd be dead for sure.
Nangong Yehen picked up a submachine gun from the rack, loading bullets as he asked, "Are you afraid of being my woman?"
"Of course I am." Chu Lingzhi pursed her lips. She didn't want to die young.
She planned to live to eighty-five, to see her son get married and even her grandson take a wife.
This answer made Nangong Yehen pause in his bullet-loading, his gaze darkening a few shades.
He turned around, curling his lips into a cold smile. "If you're scared, you can leave now."
Chu Lingzhi lifted her eyes, sparkling like crystal. "Would you let me take both sons with me?"
Nangong Yehen sneered, exuding an icy aura that made others stop in their tracks.
He raised his arm holding the gun, coldly glancing at the target set a hundred meters away with the corner of his eye, and then...
Bang! A shot hit the bullseye.
Such precise marksmanship—Chu Lingzhi stared wide-eyed at the target.
The target smoked briefly, then fell over.
"Try it with your gun." Nangong Yehen lowered his weapon, looking coldly at her stunned expression.
"I'm not like you. I can't shoot that accurately."
