Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Is Nangong Yehen Choosing a Consort?

Upon hearing this, Nangong Yehen curled his lips playfully. "Was getting pregnant out of wedlock your choice?"

Chu Lingzhi paused. "I don't know."

That memory was gone; she couldn't recall if it was voluntary. But her son meant everything to her. She thought she must have done it willingly. She had never regretted giving birth to him and raising him, not even when she was mocked or cast out by her family.

"How is it? Does it still hurt?" Chu Lingzhi looked up and asked with a smile.

Her smile was indescribably beautiful. Nangong Yehen's eyes flickered. "It doesn't hurt anymore."

Thirty minutes had finally passed, and Chu Lingzhi finished the massage. After massaging nonstop for half an hour, her fingers were sore. She clasped her hands together and rubbed them to ease the ache.

Nangong Yehen's deep gaze fixed on her fair hands. "Sore?"

Chu Lingzhi gave a wry smile. "Aching."

She took out the eye ointment and looked at Nangong Yehen's eyes. "Are your eyes really fine? Do you want me to apply this?"

"No." Nangong Yehen said flatly, his gaze still on her.

Being stared at like that made Chu Lingzhi feel uneasy all over. She packed up her medical kit and looked at him hesitantly. "Can I go back now?"

Glancing at the time, she realized it was almost time for Chu Junyu to get out of school, so she lied, "My son is about to finish school. I need to pick him up."

"You can go." Hearing her mention her son, Nangong Yehen's eyes flickered, and he agreed readily.

Chu Lingzhi smiled, thinking to herself: He's not as domineering and annoying as I thought.

Carrying the medical kit, she walked out, with Nangong Yehen following behind. When she reached the stairway, she suddenly remembered the two-million-yuan check. She stopped, took it out, and handed it back to Nangong Yehen. "Master Nangong, I won't accept this check."

Nangong Yehen raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"

"It's too much. Just two thousand will do."

"Two thousand?" Nangong Yehen frowned, looking at Chu Lingzhi in disbelief. Two thousand wasn't even enough for one of his meals.

"You gave two million, but can't give two thousand?" Chu Lingzhi asked, surprised.

"I can't."

He had given her that much money not as a treatment fee, but as child support for the past few years. He had already investigated thoroughly—she had struggled a lot raising their son at first. But his son was clever and adorable, even more likable than that arrogant brat of his. That was her achievement; she deserved that much.

"Even if my roughness didn't cause you any real harm, I shouldn't accept such a high treatment fee." When she first took the check, she thought he was seriously injured. Now that she'd seen him, he wasn't hurt at all, and she'd only massaged him for thirty minutes.

Nangong Yehen gave her a cold look for a moment, then walked straight downstairs.

Chu Lingzhi followed behind him. "Master Nangong, the two million..."

Nangong Yehen waved his hand, signaling her to stop. "If you don't take it, just tear up the check."

"..." Chu Lingzhi stopped, staring at Nangong Yehen's tall figure like he was some kind of freak. So arrogant, so imposing.

Chu Lingzhi hurried down the stairs with a clatter. Seeing the scene in the living room, she froze, staring in surprise at the women who nearly filled the spacious room.

Why were so many beautiful young women standing in rows here?

Was Nangong Yehen choosing a bride?
