Chapter 196: Chapter 196: Women All Like Cool Guys

The villagers had all gone home.

Chu Lingzhi and Nangong Yehen also returned to the house.

Chu Lingzhi's room had two large wooden beds.

Although Nangong Yehen could only sleep on his side for now, Chu Lingzhi worried he wouldn't be used to the hard wooden bed.

She asked Fu Chunyan for a cotton quilt to spread on top.

"Actually, there's no need for a cotton quilt in this weather. Lying on the bed like this feels great, nice and cool."

Chu Junyu rolled around on the bed, utterly delighted.

Nangong Yichen also thought it was nice. His handsome face had carried a faint, elegant smile since dinner.

This was the first time in his life he had slept in the same room as his parents.

The room was simple but very cozy.

"Your daddy is delicate and used to finer things; he can't handle a wooden plank bed."

Nangong Yehen, sitting on a chair, raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. "Who says I can't handle it?"

Chu Lingzhi glanced at him. "Then why didn't you stop me when I was laying it out?"

"I was afraid you'd wake up cold in the middle of the night."

"It's summer now."

"It's cooler in the mountains at night than in the city," Nangong Yehen said.

"If you hold Mommy, you won't wake up cold," Chu Junyu said with a suggestive grin.

Nangong Yehen curled his lips. "Not a bad idea."

Chu Lingzhi's cheeks flushed with heat, and she glared sternly at Chu Junyu. "You little brat, lie down and go to sleep!"

"Okay!" Chu Junyu obediently lay down at once.

"Yichen, do you want an orange?" Fu Chunyan's granddaughter, Zhong Xibing, walked in with small steps, holding a very large orange.

Without waiting for Nangong Yichen to answer, she walked to the bedside and shoved the orange into his hand, then shyly smiled and said goodnight to him.

"Hey, how come I didn't get one?" Chu Junyu raised an eyebrow, watching the small figure walk away.

"Here, take it." Nangong Yichen didn't like oranges.

"No thanks." Chu Junyu pretended to be upset, though he had already brushed his teeth and didn't want to eat.

"Proof once again that women always go for the cool guys," Nangong Yehen remarked.

"I can be cool too!" Chu Junyu kicked his little feet. "I look exactly like that little old man, and with the dim lighting, she still recognized him at a glance."

Chu Junyu's little heart was deeply wounded. Why was Nangong Yichen always more popular than him wherever they went?

He pounded the bed and scratched the blanket. Unfair!

Chu Lingzhi couldn't help but laugh at how adorable he looked.

**

In the middle of the night, Chu Lingzhi woke up from Nangong Yehen's arms and couldn't fall back asleep.

His steady breathing was in her ear.

Listening to his breaths, she suddenly felt a deep sense of peace.

Afraid of waking him, she carefully slipped out of his embrace.

Then she cautiously sat up, moved very lightly to get out of bed, and went to tuck in the sheets for Chu Junyu and Nangong Yichen.

Tonight's moonlight was as round and bright as the Mid-Autumn Festival moon.

The moonlight streamed in through the window, making the room feel like it had a dim lamp on.

Watching the two children sleeping peacefully, Chu Lingzhi felt content.

Suddenly, she heard movement from the living room.

So late, who was still awake?

Chu Lingzhi thought, since she couldn't sleep anyway, she might as well go see who else was up.

She walked out softly. The living room light was on.

Fu Chunyan was pacing back and forth in the living room, her hands rubbing her abdomen.

"Chunyan, why aren't you asleep yet?" Chu Lingzhi asked softly.

Fu Chunyan looked at her, surprised. "Did I wake you? Or are you not used to staying here?"

Chu Lingzhi shook her head and glanced at her hands on her stomach. "Are you feeling unwell?"
