"Your tongue's getting sweeter by the day." Chu Lingzhi smiled, picking up her chopsticks to eat. "Sweetie, Mommy's starving."
"Have some foie gras, your favorite."
"Such fragrant foie gras." Chu Lingzhi stared at the braised foie gras on the plate before her, her mouth watering.
She picked up a knife, cut off a piece, and was just about to bring it to her lips when a sudden sharp pain shot through her stomach.
She gasped in pain, her brows furrowing tightly.
"Mommy, are you feeling unwell?" Chu Junyu noticed something was wrong, his bright, dark eyes looking at her with concern.
"It's nothing." Chu Lingzhi didn't want her little one to worry. She put the foie gras in her mouth. "Sweetie, you eat first. Mommy's going to the restroom."
"Okay."
Chu Lingzhi got up and headed to the restroom. Chu Junyu watched the family of three at the table ahead, eating together in harmony.
The little boy looked about his age, particularly lively and adorable.
One moment he was playing with chopsticks, the next tearing at napkins, then tossing a knife...
But his parents doted on him, never scolding him. His mother coaxed him to eat.
The father looked at him with eyes full of tenderness and affection.
Chu Junyu watched them, thinking how wonderful it would be if his father could look at him and his mother with such gentle, loving eyes.
The little boy across from him wasn't even as well-behaved as he was, and his mother wasn't as pretty as his own.
But his father hadn't abandoned them.
As he watched, a shadow of gloom crept into Chu Junyu's heart.
Why did his father have to abandon them?
And cause his mother to have a car accident that led to memory loss?
He was still so young, just a five-year-old child, and he craved a father's love.
But not only did he lack that love, he didn't even know who his father was.
Hmph!
Chu Junyu gritted his teeth inwardly: If I ever find out who my father is, I'll slap him across the face!
At the table beside him, Gong Yeyan sat with a glass of white liquor, leaning back in his chair, sipping and watching Chu Junyu.
He had come in shortly after Chu Lingzhi left and had been sitting there observing the boy for several minutes.
He saw the look of gloom on that kid's face as he watched the family of three ahead.
He didn't need to ask to know what was going through his mind.
He had shown up here tonight specifically to see him.
Huoluan had told him this boy often mentioned him in front of his mother.
Blood is thicker than water, after all.
Nangong Yeyan smiled faintly. This kid looked exactly like his younger brother.
But it was clear their personalities were completely different.
Chu Junyu withdrew his gaze and started eating without waiting for Chu Lingzhi to return.
After a few bites, he felt someone watching him.
He looked up and met Nangong Yeyan's gaze.
His clear, dark eyes collided with Nangong Yeyan's smiling ones.
Chu Junyu paused slightly, his little brows knitting together. Nangong Yeyan?
Why was he staring at him like that?
Caught, Nangong Yeyan didn't try to hide.
He picked up his glass, stood, and his tall figure strode over to him.
Chu Junyu noticed that his standing up immediately drew a lot of attention.
He was like a beacon, no matter the setting, easily capturing everyone's notice.
"Do you know me?" Nangong Yeyan sat down across from him.
"That's what I should be asking you." Chu Junyu smiled elegantly. "You were sitting there staring at me, and now you're coming over to strike up a conversation."
"Strike up a conversation?" Nangong Yeyan raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a meaningful smile.
"Isn't that what you're doing, trying to chat me up?" Chu Junyu chuckled. Wasn't it obvious?
Nangong Yeyan's eyes sparkled. "Do you know why I'm trying to chat you up?"
