Chapter 24: Chapter 24 Shen Xiaoxing Couldn't Swallow This

In the early morning, An Ruo slept in, waking up naturally and comfortably. She stretched lazily with her eyes half-closed, her hand brushing against something warm and fleshy, startling her into snapping her eyes wide open!

The man lay in a neat sleeping posture. Seeing he was still asleep, An Ruo carefully lifted the covers and got out of bed. She remembered falling asleep on the couch last night—how did she end up in bed when she opened her eyes? Could it be his sleepwalking acting up again?

As the warmth beside him faded, the man slowly cracked open one eye. Watching the girl sneak off to the bathroom, he dropped his pretense. Just as he was about to get out of bed, a knock came from the door—it was Butler Xu.

Since it was Saturday, An Ruo didn’t have to attend school. She hurried through breakfast and headed to the hospital. She had made some food, but when packing it, she deliberately split it into two portions. He Su had helped her many times, and she couldn’t be ungrateful, but she had nothing else to give him—her circumstances didn’t allow it.

The hospital was crowded in the morning. A recent cold snap had caused a long line of patients with fevers and colds. He Su took a case file handed to him by a nurse, leaning down to say a few words to her. An Ruo waited until he was free before approaching to greet him. “Dr. He…”

He Su looked up and spotted the slouching man behind her. His brow furrowed slightly, and he quickly pulled the girl against the wall. An Ruo stared in surprise at him pressing close, instinctively wanting to push him away, but his low voice whispered in her ear, “Help me out.”

Using the case file in his hand to shield their faces, He Su made it look like they were kissing. An Ruo’s half-hearted resistance came off as coy reluctance, and at a glance, the scene reeked of intimacy. Passing nurses and patients were stunned. They knew Dr. He was unrestrained, but they never expected him to be this wild—right in the hospital, in full view of everyone… how improper!

Shen Tingfeng whistled, hands in his pockets, watching the pair with keen interest. “Young master, this…” The subordinate beside him couldn’t bear to look. “Mind your own business.” Shen Tingfeng shrugged nonchalantly. He knew He Su’s character well—this audacity earned his respect. He called out, “Dr. He, hurry it up. I’m waiting for you to handle business.”

An Ruo’s whole body tensed. That voice… Shen Tingfeng? What was he doing here?! If that jerk spotted her here, he’d definitely stir up trouble again.

“Don’t say anything later. Keep walking straight ahead, don’t look back.” An Ruo nodded dumbly.

The man released her, and in that instant, An Ruo turned and hurried in the opposite direction, leaving Shen Tingfeng staring at her back, puzzled. His eyes roamed over her figure, and he smirked, giving his verdict: “Nice body on that chick.” “Of course, I’ve got good taste.” He Su smiled calmly, then adjusted his tie. “What’s the plan for me?” Shen Tingfeng didn’t answer right away. Instead, he walked over to the stairwell on his own, and He Su followed suit.

After sprinting out of the lobby, An Ruo leaned against the wall, panting. Was Shen Tingfeng at the hospital for a checkup—or for his head? From the way they’d just talked, they seemed pretty familiar.

An Ruo shook her head. Looking down, she realized she still hadn’t given the food to He Su. She waited half an hour, then circled back to He Su’s office. Before entering, she knocked a few times.

Inside, the man standing by the window stubbed out his cigarette and warily hid behind the screen. “Dr. He, are you in?”

That voice… Getting no response and pressed for time, An Ruo decided to just leave the food on his desk. Pushing the door open, a thick smell of nicotine hit her. So Shen Tingfeng had been chatting with He Su in the office earlier—where else would such heavy smoke come from? The ashtray on the desk still held a cigarette that hadn’t fully burned out. Had they just left?

An Ruo placed a beautifully packaged box of pastries on the desk. Worried He Su wouldn’t know who left it when he returned, she found a piece of paper and carefully wrote a concise note.

From behind the screen, Shen Xiaoxing watched coldly as An Ruo finished. He nodded in satisfaction, quietly left the room, and made sure to close the door. Once the room was completely still, he stepped out from behind the screen to the desk, his eyes blazing with anger as he stared at the box of pastries. So she’d spent all morning bustling in the kitchen just to make pastries for He Su?! And using ingredients from the villa—basically spending his money to gift another man!

Shen Xiaoxing couldn’t swallow that. He roughly tore open the box, grabbed a piece, and shoved it into his mouth, chewing as if venting his fury. It didn’t taste that great, but he wasn’t about to let He Su have it!

Speak of the devil—He Su had barely managed to send Shen Tingfeng off when he pushed open the door and found this man sitting at his desk, his icy glare fixed on him. That look, like He Su owed him money.

He Su was baffled. “What’s with this?” Could he already know about Shen Tingfeng’s visit?

Shen Xiaoxing ignored him, tossed the half-eaten pastry aside, and pointed at the paper on the desk. He Su picked it up and read: *Dr. He, thank you for your many acts of kindness. A small token of gratitude, please accept it.* At the bottom was the girl’s name.

He Su raised an eyebrow. “So the little sister-in-law is called An Ruo. What a pretty name.” The man’s sharp gaze shot over. “Is her name something you’re allowed to say?” “She gave this to me as a gift, and you not only opened it but won’t even let me say her name?” He Su reached for the pastries, but the man slapped his hand away. He winced in pain. “So stingy!”
