Bai Tang had dinner at the cafeteria and had just returned to the hospital room when she saw a woman with a slender figure and long hair cascading over her shoulders standing inside.
A white knee-length dress made her appear gentle and sweet.
This demure image lasted only until the woman turned to face her.
Bai Xi'er spun around, looking at Bai Tang as she strolled slowly in from the doorway, and immediately spoke with an arrogant tone: "Bai Tang, I just called you. Why didn't you pick up?"
"Don't you know how busy I am?"
Bai Xi'er said irritably, her chin slightly raised, wearing a look of haughty disdain.
Bai Tang raised an eyebrow slightly, ignoring her outburst, walked over to the hospital bed, pressed the call button beside it, and said calmly: "There's a lunatic in my room. Please call security for me."
Bai Xi'er was already annoyed at being ignored, and Bai Tang's move only made her anger flare up even more.
"Bai Tang, you... you, how dare you treat me like this!" Bai Xi'er pointed at her angrily. "Bai Tang, you're going too far! I'm going to tell Dad!"
Bai Tang curled her lips, sat down to rest, and looked at Bai Xi'er with a faint, mocking smile, slowly forming a smirk.
The expression in Bai Xi'er's eyes made her feel like a clown putting on a show.
Just then, the security guard at the door walked in, glanced at Bai Xi'er, and then fixed his gaze on Bai Tang.
"Yes, it's her. A crazy woman disturbing my rest. Please help me throw her out!" Bai Tang said to the security guard.
Bai Xi'er: "..."
"Bai Tang, don't go too far!" Bai Xi'er fumed, wanting to curse but holding back to preserve her image. "Bai Tang, tomorrow is my birthday party. You'd better come!"
"No!" Bai Tang refused bluntly, then said to the security guard, "Uncles, please throw her out!"
Bai Xi'er hadn't expected Bai Tang to be so cold, but recalling how she'd been like this lately, she couldn't help sneering: "Bai Tang, you're afraid that tomorrow I'll be the center of attention while you're just an ugly duckling forgotten in the corner, aren't you?"
Bai Tang smirked. This white lotus really... trying to use such a cheap provocation on her?
She'd stopped using tricks like that when she was ten!
"You'd better not mess with me, or you'll regret it," Bai Tang said with a roguish grin, though her eyes held a hint of chill and danger. "Don't try to show off in front of me."
"Ha, do you really think you're still the eldest Miss of the Bai family? Now you're just a wild child without a mother. Even Dad has completely forgotten you. What right do you have to act so arrogant in front of me?"
Bai Xi'er sneered at her.
Bai Tang lowered her head slightly, her long lashes hiding the fleeting shadow of gloom in her eyes.
Such familiar words!
It had been about ten years since she'd last heard them. Hearing them now made her feel like doing something with her hands.
The security guards nearby initially didn't want to get involved in a spat between two young women, but seeing Bai Xi'er's harsh words and comparing it to Bai Tang, who still had bandages on her head and wore a hospital gown, looking "fragile," they immediately felt displeased with Bai Xi'er.
"Miss, please leave. This is a hospital," one of the guards said.
Bai Xi'er shot an annoyed glance at the guard. She didn't want to stay here anyway—breathing the same air as Bai Tang felt dirty to her.
"Bai Tang, I kindly invited you back. Don't be ungrateful. Just wait for Dad to call you!" Bai Xi'er sneered. "You're afraid that showing up covered in injuries will make Dad angry, so you don't dare, right?"
The guards had already lost any goodwill toward the well-dressed girl and were about to speak again.
A cool, slightly mocking voice rang out: "You're that eager for me to show up?"
