After leaving the hotel, Wen Qi didn’t call for his riding Gogoat this time. Instead, he planned to take Arcanine for a stroll.
He had checked the information beforehand—Evergreen City was massive, with breeding houses scattered across several districts. Basically, each of the five directions—east, south, west, north, and center—had an entire street lined with breeding houses. Add in the other scattered ones around the city, and the number of breeding houses here was astonishing.
As it happened, near the Breeders’ Association, there was such a street concentrated with breeding houses, and even the city’s largest official breeding house, Evergreen Official Breeding House, was located there.
So, Wen Qi didn’t have to walk far to get there. He brought Arcanine along simply because the dog loved excitement and he wanted to let it get some fresh air.
As soon as he stepped out of the hotel, the ecstatic Arcanine was right by his side.
The moment Arcanine appeared, it was like a wild horse breaking free, its joy impossible to contain. Its fluffy tail wagged cheerfully from side to side, like a flag dancing fervently.
Its head kept turning, its curious eyes exploring everywhere, finding novelty in everything around it.
Passing by a snack stall, Arcanine sniffed hard, staring intently at the food on display, letting out urgent whines. It twisted its head to look at Wen Qi, its eyes full of longing, as if saying:
“Master, I really want to try some!”
Wen Qi smiled and gently patted its head, saying:
“You little glutton, this isn’t for you.”
Spotting a few other Pokémon by the roadside, Arcanine immediately dashed over, wagging its tail enthusiastically in greeting.
Those Pokémon were a bit wary at first, but soon caught by Arcanine’s warmth, they started playing together.
Arcanine excitedly ran and jumped among them, occasionally darting back to Wen Qi, rubbing its head against his leg, as if saying:
“Master, look how awesome I am—I’ve made so many friends!”
A little kid ran over wanting to pet it. Arcanine not only didn’t resist but actively leaned in, licking the child’s hand, making the kid giggle with joy.
The kid pulled out a small toy to play with Arcanine. Arcanine looked at Wen Qi, and after getting his nod of approval, happily played along.
Coming across a puddle, Arcanine jumped in without hesitation, splashing water everywhere, then rolled around joyfully in it.
Wen Qi called out helplessly:
“Get out of there, you little rascal!”
Hearing this, Arcanine obediently ran out of the puddle, came over to Wen Qi, and shook itself vigorously, splashing water all over him. Then it mischievously ran off to keep frolicking.
Watching Arcanine’s wild antics, Wen Qi decided he needed to rein it in a bit, so he had Venomoth use Psychic to freeze Arcanine in place.
Although Arcanine’s level wasn’t as high as Venomoth’s, it was close to level 40, and resisting wouldn’t have been too hard if it wanted to.
But Arcanine, silly as it usually was, knew that Venomoth suddenly freezing it meant it was Wen Qi’s doing, so it didn’t dare move a muscle.
Wen Qi walked over to the immobilized Arcanine, crouched down, and said earnestly:
“Arcanine, you little one, the moment you’re out, you go wild running and playing without any care. This street isn’t a place for us to goof off—if you accidentally bump into someone or cause trouble, that won’t be good.
I know you love excitement and playing, but we need to have some limits and follow the rules. Be good, and when we’re done and head back, I’ll give you a nice reward. Don’t always be so mischievous and make me worry, got it?”
After saying that, Wen Qi gently stroked Arcanine’s head and signaled Venomoth to release the Psychic.
Freed, Arcanine immediately settled down.
It turned out that Arcanine’s life in the small world hadn’t been easy. It spent every day with two mischievous Houndour, constantly having to watch them to prevent trouble or fights.
And though the small world’s space wasn’t tiny, it was still limited. The monotonous, day-after-day life had made Arcanine feel incredibly stifled.
Finally getting to come out with Wen Qi, it was like a bird long caged suddenly set free, its mind set only on letting loose and truly relaxing.
It wanted to release all the pent-up frustration and oppression from the small world, which was why it ran and played so wildly, savoring this rare freedom without restraint.
But since its master had spoken, Arcanine had no choice but to obey. After all, it wasn’t as naughty as its Growlithe days—it had matured quite a bit.
After that, Arcanine behaved much better, and soon Wen Qi arrived at the street lined with breeding houses.
Looking down the entire street, all breeding houses, stretching endlessly, with no fewer than a hundred shops. Wen Qi felt torn, unsure which ones to enter first.
With so many shops, even spending just ten minutes in each, he couldn’t finish them all in a day.
He pulled out his phone to check the best and worst-reviewed shops on this street.
He planned to visit the best ones first to see if there were any treasures. As for why he’d also check the worst ones—those shops had poor business and fewer visitors, so there might be some overlooked gems.
The first breeding house Wen Qi walked into was, of course, Evergreen City’s official one—Evergreen Breeding House.
Given the city’s vast size, this official breeding house had branches in all five directions: east, south, west, north, and center.
Conveniently, one was right here. At the entrance, Wen Qi’s first impression was size—just sheer size.
Looking at its scale, it was far larger than the four or five neighboring breeding houses combined.
Wen Qi didn’t put Arcanine away, because the space here was enormous. Even a two-meter-tall Arcanine seemed tiny in comparison.
With such a spacious area, there was no worry about Arcanine disrupting the breeding house, and plenty of people were walking around with their Pokémon anyway.
As soon as Wen Qi stepped through the main door, no one came to greet him.
Taking a closer look, he wasn’t surprised.
The lobby was packed with people, many just here to browse Pokémon, so it wasn’t realistic for staff to approach every newcomer.
Still, he noticed employees standing nearby, likely ready to help if called.
He also saw nine large doors on each side of the lobby, each marked with a corresponding type.
It seemed this place had Pokémon of all 18 types—far more impressive than Spring Blossom City.
Staring at those doors, Wen Qi thought he’d head to the Dragon-type section first. Maybe he’d come across a rare Dragon-type Pokémon.
After all, he now had special energy cubes, so he wasn’t worried about Dragon-types growing slowly. If he found a good one, raising it would definitely be worthwhile.
