The elevator reached the first floor. Su Banxia went straight to the pharmacy, picked up the medicine, and headed back. Lost in thought, she accidentally bumped into someone.
"Sorry, my apologies!"
Snapped out of her daze by the collision, she quickly apologized.
"Su Banxia, what a coincidence!"
A woman's voice came from beside her.
Su Banxia looked up and saw Gu Feifei standing in front of her with her arms crossed, wearing a condescending expression. Recognizing her, Su Banxia showed no reaction and simply repeated, "I was walking too fast just now. Sorry about that."
Gu Feifei sneered. "Su Banxia, what are you thinking? Knowing I'm pregnant, it must sting, right? You loved Ren Yuan so much back then. Never thought the day would come when I'd be the one carrying his child, did you?"
"You're overthinking it."
Su Banxia didn't want to get tangled up with her—it was just a pointless exchange of spiteful words. Clutching the medicine, she turned to leave.
But Gu Feifei grabbed her arm. "What are you running from? Huh? Aren't you all lovey-dovey with CEO Pei? What's wrong? Has he stopped wanting you lately?"
Is this woman out of her mind?
"Gu Feifei, are you crazy? Let go!"
Su Banxia was getting angry now. She stared at her and spoke coldly.
Gu Feifei was startled by her sudden icy tone, but then she grew smug again. She was already tall, and with her sky-high heels, she towered over Su Banxia. Looking down at her, she taunted, "Su Banxia, I think you're just jealous of me. Look, the baby in my belly is Ren Yuan's. You'll never have the chance to bear his child."
Su Banxia never understood what she'd done to make it seem like she still had feelings for a piece of trash like Ren Yuan, letting Gu Feifei use him to provoke her.
Taking a breath, she faced Gu Feifei and said, "Miss Gu, just because you treat Ren Yuan like a treasure doesn't mean others see him that way. That man is already something I've discarded. Haven't you noticed I'm with Pei Shaoze now? Even if I weren't with him, I could easily find any man better than Ren Yuan. What are you flaunting your belly for in front of me?"
"His seed? Do you think I'd envy a child even you don't want?"
Pausing, she saw Gu Feifei's face darken and let out a cold laugh. "By the way, I'm curious—are you planning to ditch Ren Yuan and climb the social ladder yourself?"
She knew this woman too well. Gu Feifei was incredibly vain. Back then, she'd seduced Ren Yuan only because he was handsome and attentive. Plus, when Ren Yuan was chasing Su Banxia and ignoring her, Gu Feifei's jealousy drove her to steal him away. Now, seeing Su Banxia with Pei Shaoze, her envy and vanity were flaring up again, making her restless. Otherwise, why would she be pregnant after being with Ren Yuan so long and still not want the child?
Su Banxia's words hit a nerve. Gu Feifei's expression soured as she glared at her. "Su Banxia, don't get cocky. Do you really think Pei Shaoze would fall for someone like you? You're just a bed warmer. What makes you think you're so capable? Just wait and cry!"
Su Banxia smirked. "Even if I'm just a bed warmer, at least I'm sleeping next to Pei Shaoze. What about you? Can you manage that? No, right?"
With that jab, Su Banxia walked off. This kind of verbal sparring was pointless.
Gu Feifei was fuming, her face red with rage, but there was nothing she could do. She could only stomp her foot angrily, watching Su Banxia's retreating back, vowing to find a way to destroy her.
When Su Banxia went back up, Guoguo's IV was already done. She called a nurse to remove the needle, and the mother and her two children were discharged.
The child could barely walk after the infusion. Su Banxia, feeling for her, carried her on her back the whole way. Su Hao followed behind, the little guy holding her bag, looking a bit comical yet heartwarming.
Getting a taxi at the hospital entrance was tough, especially with a child on her back. So Su Banxia had Guoguo and Su Hao wait in the shade downstairs while she went to hail one.
The two kids sat on a bench waiting for Su Banxia. Suddenly, her phone rang from inside her bag.
Su Hao fished it out, intending to hand it to Su Banxia, but he didn't want to leave his sister alone. Guoguo, seeing him hesitate, playfully snatched the phone from his hand and swiped to answer.
In a baby voice, she said into the phone, "Hello!"
Pei Shaoze had been annoyed since Su Banxia hung up on him yesterday and turned off her phone, and today she hadn't called at all. He'd gotten used to her being at his beck and call, and her sudden defiance irritated him. Still fuming, he called her again today.
He'd prepared a string of complaints for Su Banxia, but when he heard the soft, childish voice on the other end, he froze.
His tone softened. "Hello."
Hearing a nice-sounding man's voice, Guoguo hugged the phone and started chatting with Pei Shaoze. "Uncle, your voice is really nice. Are you looking for my mom? She's not here right now. If you need to tell her something, I can pass it on for you."
That sweet, babyish voice was irresistible to a tough guy like Pei Shaoze. Hearing it, his heart melted, and his earlier frustration eased considerably.
For some reason, he asked, "What's your name? Can you tell uncle?"
Guoguo was clever. When asked her name, she looked up at Su Hao and whispered, "Brother, this uncle is asking my name. Should I tell him?"
Su Hao frowned slightly, took the phone from her hand, and said into it, "Hello, my mom is busy right now. I'll have her call you back later."
With that, he hung up.
Pei Shaoze: "..."
A boy's voice?
He paused, then remembered Su Banxia had twins. He'd seen Fang Shiqing getting into a car with two kids earlier. Despite being hung up on, Pei Shaoze couldn't help but smile.
Just like that woman's temperament.
When Su Banxia came back after getting a taxi, the two siblings were still chatting. Guoguo saw her and said, "Mom, brother just hung up your phone!"
The taxi was waiting outside, so Su Banxia hoisted Guoguo onto her back and said, "I wasn't on the phone with your brother just now."
She'd misunderstood. Guoguo explained, "A while ago, an uncle called you. I answered, and he asked my name. Then brother hung up on him."
Su Banxia nodded without saying much, thinking she'd check it later.
