Chapter 131: Welcome
Placing Little on the table, the usually mischievous ragdoll cat, who always dreamed of crawling out and slipping away, suddenly became docile.
Chen Ge sensed a hint of fear from her—something noteworthy, considering Little hadn’t even been afraid when facing the Mirror Ghost. “Is this stray cat special, or is it because Little is too weak?”
Curled up on the chair, the white cat stared at the four kittens in the basket, seemingly indifferent to everything else.
“Since I’ve decided to adopt it, I can’t keep calling it White Cat forever. I need to give it a name.” Chen Ge had never raised an animal before in his life. After racking his brain, he sat on the floor, leveling his gaze with the white cat on the chair. “We met in a heavy rain at nine in the evening. How about calling you Night Rain?”
The white cat didn’t move, but a faint hint of disdain seeped through.
“Not a fan of the literary vibe? Then let’s switch it up. How about Nian Nian? ‘Nian Nian You Yu’—abundance every year. Great symbolism, right?” The white cat on the chair turned its head away, as if it didn’t want to see Chen Ge at all.
“Still not into it? Pure white all over—how about Snow White? Sticky Rice? Milk?”
Maybe because Chen Ge was too close, making the white cat feel threatened, it bared its fangs, whiskers bristling, and the freshly healed wound on its face began to seep blood again.
“This cat is way too fierce, isn’t it?”
Other people’s cats acted cute and cuddly, but when it was his turn, the vibe took a sharp turn.
Chen Ge looked at the gruesome, bleeding wound on the white cat’s face and scooted backward. This wasn’t a cat at all—it was a wild, untamable little tiger.
“Doesn’t act like a cat at all. Pure white with no other colors. Why not just call you White Tiger?” As soon as Chen Ge said the name, it felt oddly awkward. He was about to think of another when the white cat on the chair suddenly stood up.
Ears perked, it jumped off the chair and frantically scratched at the staff break room door.
“What’s going on?” The white cat’s reaction was abnormal. It seemed desperate to get out. Sensing something was off, Chen Ge quickly opened the staff break room door. “It wasn’t this agitated when we went to the Muyang High School scene earlier. This cat must be sensing something!”
Once out of the staff break room, the white cat bolted straight for the first-floor bathroom, its sharp claws leaving deep gouges on the door panel.
“The first-floor bathroom?” Chen Ge’s heart skipped a beat. He pulled out his phone to check the time—it was exactly midnight!
“Is there a problem with the door in the mirror?!”
He immediately opened the bathroom door and yanked the black cloth off the mirror.
Inside the mirror’s surface, the blood-red door appeared right on schedule, but this time it was different.
Thick, vivid blood seeped through the cracks in the door. The stall door in the mirror trembled every few seconds, as if someone was repeatedly pushing against it!
Chen Ge didn’t dare act rashly. He turned his gaze to the real-world bathroom stall door.
The real stall door and the one in the mirror shook simultaneously. Every midnight, this ordinary door became the intersection point between two worlds.
“There’s someone behind the door!” Chen Ge’s tension spiked. He grabbed a nearby mop, his eyes locked on the jumping lock on the stall door. He was grateful he’d locked the stall last time; otherwise, whatever was inside might have already entered the haunted house.
The impact grew stronger. All Chen Ge could do now was wait—endure this one minute.
He had no desire to provoke the monster behind the door, nor was he curious about what it was. Right now, he just wanted to run his haunted house peacefully.
The lock rattled, looking like it wouldn’t hold much longer. Chen Ge gripped the mop, ready for anything.
The white cat lowered its head, baring its teeth at the door, poised to pounce.
The terrifying event didn’t happen. After a minute, the blood-red door in the mirror vanished, and the real stall door returned to normal.
“It’s over.” Both Chen Ge and the white cat on the floor breathed a sigh of relief. Interestingly, the white cat shot him a very resentful look, probably thinking, “I’ve been here less than an hour, and I’ve been scared into bristling twice. Is this even a place for a cat?”
“You dare glare at me?” Chen Ge moved to pick up the white cat, but it darted into the staff break room in a flash.
“Won’t even let me touch it. Too tsundere.”
Alone in the bathroom, Chen Ge found the key, opened the stall door, and checked it.
The door panel was clearly battered, and the lock was a bit loose.
“Looks like I need to get a sturdier door.” Chen Ge also considered just removing the stall and the mirror, but he was worried that even if he tore it all down, the door would still exist.
“The first time the blood door appeared, there was nothing unusual. The second time, I heard strange sounds from behind it, like a body being dragged. This is the third time—someone behind the door is trying to get out.” Chen Ge covered the mirror with the black cloth, staring at the shrouded surface. “My parents once said the door to the Third Ward was opened again. Could the door they mentioned be like the one in the bathroom? Is the Third Ward already a monster’s nest?”
No one could answer Chen Ge’s questions. He could only rely on himself.
He went to the tool room, found some wooden boards, and reinforced the stall door. By the time he finished, it was almost one in the morning.
“I need to get up early tomorrow to haul the mannequins. Can’t stay up any longer.” He took out a blanket and placed it next to the white cat, then lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
At seven in the morning, Chen Ge was woken by his alarm. The white cat woke up with him.
The cat was highly alert, probably used to being on edge—any slight disturbance made it tense.
“Time to work.” Chen Ge called Uncle Xu and borrowed the park’s delivery truck to go pick up the mannequin bodies.
The white cat guarded the basket, making it impossible for Chen Ge to approach the dead kittens for now, so he left it alone.
Around eight, Chen Ge made two trips and finally brought all the mannequin bodies back to the Haunted House.
The hallway was filled with headless torsos. Uncle Xu took one look from afar and quickly made an excuse to leave.
“Is it really that scary?”
Chen Ge lifted the wooden board leading to the basement, matched the heads to the bodies based on their markings, assembled all the mannequins, and carried them into the Muyang High School scene.
Pushing open the door to the last classroom, Chen Ge dressed each mannequin one by one. As he draped a coat over the last one, the black phone vibrated softly.
“Two-star horror scene Muyang High School hidden mission—‘Create Bodies for the Twenty-Four Names’ completed!”
“Congratulations on receiving the mission reward—‘Trust of the Returners.’ You can now control them simply through your phone.”
“Warning! Once the lingering thoughts leave the horror scene, they will go out of control! Be extremely careful!”
All hidden missions for Muyang High School were complete. This two-star horror scene could officially open for use today.
“The new scene is finally done. Should I call He Shan? That kid says he doesn’t like it, but I feel like he has a blast every time.”
