The man stepped out of the elevator, and everyone inside breathed a sigh of relief.
He walked to the VIP ward, his gaze landing on the two bodyguards standing at the door, a mocking smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
The bodyguards at the door initially moved to block him, but upon recognizing who he was, they quickly stepped aside and opened the door.
Seeing the chrysanthemums in the man's arms, both bodyguards were too terrified to speak.
Ignoring them, the man walked straight in.
Feng Zi, who was playing on his phone inside, looked up at the newcomer, his eyes instantly darkening. "Why are you here?"
The man smirked, reaching up to remove his sunglasses. His handsome, striking face bore a faint, elusive smile, with a scar near the corner of his eye that made even that smile seem dangerously sharp.
"Heard you were injured, thought I'd pay a visit," the man said, smiling, though the warmth didn't reach his eyes.
"Brought these for you."
He placed the chrysanthemums on the cabinet beside Feng Zi.
"Get those away from me!" Feng Zi recoiled, shouting in fury.
The bodyguards rushed in at the sound, and Feng Zi snapped, "What the hell are you two doing? Who let him bring flowers in here?"
"You think they could stop me?" the man sneered at Feng Zi.
"Throw those flowers out now!" Feng Zi barked at the bodyguards.
The bodyguards glanced nervously at the man but dared not move.
"Who's your boss?!" Feng Zi roared.
Startled, the bodyguards hurried over to take the chrysanthemums away.
The man didn't stop them, instead speaking with a sly grin, "My young lady asked me to send these to you. What, not a fan?"
Feng Zi's furious expression froze. He turned to look at the man, his eyes narrowing with suspicion.
"Her? Where is she?" Feng Zi's gaze sharpened dangerously.
"Where she ought to be, of course." The man chuckled, then added, "Since you miss her so much, I'll be sure to pass that along."
"Bai Wu, you're talking nonsense!" Feng Zi's eyes bore into him, a mocking laugh escaping his lips. "Your young lady's corpse must be nothing but bones by now!"
The man sneered. "Who said that was my young lady?"
Feng Zi's face stiffened. "It was her!"
"You haven't seen her in nearly ten years, so how can you be so sure the one who died was her?" Bai Wu raised an eyebrow, his lips curling coldly. "Or do you think the photos and intel you got are really her?"
Feng Zi stared at Bai Wu in silence. The intel couldn't be fake!
Bai Wu gave a cold laugh. "Don't worry. Our young lady said she'll be back soon. Since you're all so eager to see her, she won't disappoint."
"You're lying to me!" Feng Zi fumed.
Bai Wu twitched the corner of his mouth, not answering the question. Instead, he glanced at Feng Zi's injuries and said with a hint of mockery, "Take good care of yourself. You're so weak now—I'm afraid when she comes back, she won't have much fun tormenting you."
"Bai Wu, are you asking for a fight?!" Feng Zi gritted his teeth in rage.
Bai Wu raised an eyebrow slightly, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "In your current half-crippled state?"
"You—"
"Rest up," Bai Wu said coldly, turning to leave.
Feng Zi grabbed the pillow beside him and hurled it in fury, but the man had already left the room.
Suddenly, he felt an itch on his face. He scratched it, then noticed red welts spreading across the back of his hand. Fuming, Feng Zi shouted, "Get the doctor!"
After leaving the hospital, Bai Wu headed straight to the school.
He waited at the school gate for over two hours until the bell rang, and then a gentle smile slowly spread across his usually stern face.
