Chapter 48: Chapter 48: I'm More Chivalrous Than You

Sheng Qi stared expressionlessly at the drama queen in front of him. Why was she so asking for a beating?

"Don't be shy. You've already chased her all the way to her home, so what's the point of pretending?" Bai Tang said, looking at him with an air of knowing it all.

Sheng Qi pressed his lips tightly together. He was starting to regret coming here.

But the girl in front of him seemed oblivious to his irritation.

Her mischievous voice rang in his ears again: "Men shouldn't be so reserved, you know."

Sheng Qi did his best to restrain himself from throwing a punch.

Suddenly, he stood up, looking down at her. "Sorry for the intrusion."

Bai Tang curled her lips, a half-smile playing on her face. "Handsome, can I ask why you're so desperate to have me join?"

Before Sheng Qi could respond, Bai Tang raised a hand to cut him off, laughing as she spoke. "I get it. It must be because I'm so adorable that you've fallen hopelessly in love with me!"

Sheng Qi stared at her, deadpan. "Daydreaming before the sun's even set?"

"What are you hinting at? Want to have a candlelit dinner with your little cutie?"

Bai Tang blinked, her glass-like eyes sparkling with mischief.

Sheng Qi was this close to losing it over her shameless narcissism.

Just as he was debating whether to curse her out, the doorbell rang again.

Bai Tang glanced at the door, then shot Sheng Qi a sly grin. "Your chance has arrived!"

Sheng Qi frowned, but before he could ask, Bai Tang had already dashed toward the door.

Assuming it was her family returning and realizing today's conversation was going nowhere, Sheng Qi turned to leave.

But as he reached the entrance, he saw the girl holding two takeout bags.

"Come on, candlelit dinner!" Bai Tang chuckled.

Sheng Qi froze mid-step.

Without ceremony, Bai Tang handed him the two bags. "I'll grab the bowls and chopsticks from the kitchen."

Sheng Qi stood there, holding the bags, his body stiff.

The bags in his hands felt like hot potatoes.

He wanted to let them go, but somehow, his grip tightened instead.

"What are you standing there for? Bring them over!" Bai Tang called out, holding two bowls.

Sheng Qi took a deep breath, then turned and walked back with the bags.

Seeing her sitting on the carpet by the coffee table, Sheng Qi frowned. In his world, eating at home meant sitting at the dining table.

Sitting on the floor by the coffee table? What kind of nonsense was that?

The obsessive-compulsive Sheng Qi was inexplicably annoyed.

"What are you spacing out for? Hurry up!" Bai Tang urged, eventually getting up to grab one of the bags from him, cheerfully pulling out the containers inside.

Sheng Qi watched her, helpless, and finally gave in. He set the bag down and sat on the sofa, staring at Bai Tang without moving.

Bai Tang laid out the food—five dishes in total.

Sheng Qi glanced at the dishes, then his gaze landed on Bai Tang.

The girl was petite, the type who looked like she couldn't even finish a small bowl of rice.

Five dishes?

"Did you know I was coming?" Sheng Qi asked.

It wasn't an unreasonable assumption.

Bai Tang looked up, placing a bowl and chopsticks in front of him, a deep smile on her face. "Looks like Handsome is pretty narcissistic too!"

Sheng Qi: "..."

Seeing his cold glare, Bai Tang laughed lightly. "I, on the other hand, know how to cherish the fairer sex..."

Sheng Qi didn't understand what she meant, but her silvery laughter rang out.

The girl calmly began her flirtation: "I didn't know you were coming, but I hoped you would. So every day, I order a few extra dishes, hoping Handsome would come and have dinner with me!"

Sheng Qi: Hah...
