Chapter 202: Chapter 202: A Huge Surprise (Part 2)

Wen Qi was so thrilled because the information about Eevee in the system excited him immensely.

Pokémon: Eevee Level: 20 Type: Normal Ability: Adaptability (Moves of the same type as the Pokémon deal higher damage) Potential: Deep Green Moves: Tackle (Proficient), Tail Whip (Proficient), Growl (Proficient), Helping Hand (Proficient), Covet (Proficient), Quick Attack (Proficient), Baby-Doll Eyes (Proficient), Swift (Proficient), Double-Edge (Proficient), Protect (Proficient), Bite (Proficient), Copycat (Proficient), Baton Pass (Proficient), Confuse Ray (Proficient), Assurance (Proficient), Calm Mind (Proficient), Curse (Proficient), Dark Pulse (Proficient), Fake Tears (Proficient), Shadow Ball (Proficient), Snarl (Proficient), Psybeam (Proficient), Morning Sun (Proficient), Expanding Force (Proficient), Light Screen (Proficient), Psychic (Proficient) Status: Blessed by a certain llama; each evolution not only increases base stats by 40 points but also continuously enhances potential, allowing free form switching.

When Wen Qi first saw this information about Eevee, he was beside himself with excitement. Just considering its potential, it was originally orange-grade, at best a deep orange. But according to Munchlax, Eevee had evolved twice, directly boosting its potential by two levels, from deep orange to deep green. Thinking about the six more evolutions ahead, even if improving potential became harder later, reaching purple-grade was highly promising, and even gold-grade wasn’t out of the question. This was essentially a mini-legendary with limitless potential.

Moreover, each evolution increased base stats by 40 points. While base stats didn’t determine everything, even the lowest legendary Pokémon had no less than 500. Eevee’s initial base stats were 325, and it could evolve eight times, totaling 320 points. Combined, this Eevee’s base stats would reach 645—an astonishing number, higher than pseudo-legendaries and even surpassing some legendaries. This Eevee could also learn moves from its evolutions, starting with Proficient mastery. This meant Eevee could freely switch types based on the opponent, with nine types ensuring at least one would counter the foe. So, as long as nothing went wrong, raising this Eevee well would make it a powerful ally for Wen Qi.

Previously, Eevee had evolved twice through friendship, likely stemming from its bond with Munchlax. Thus, Wen Qi decided to treat Munchlax even better, given how close the two Pokémon seemed. Indeed, Eevee had been mocked and ostracized in the shop before, with only Munchlax being friendly to it. The two Pokémon ate, rested, and played together, naturally becoming best friends, and during this process, Eevee evolved smoothly.

Wen Qi then checked Munchlax’s information.

Pokémon: Munchlax Level: 18 Type: Normal Ability: Thick Fat (Protected by thick fat, halves damage from Fire- and Ice-type moves) Potential: Deep Yellow Moves: Tackle (Proficient), Lick (Beginner), Defense Curl (Proficient), Recycle (Proficient), Covet (Proficient), Stockpile (Proficient), Bite (Proficient), Charm (Proficient), Double-Edge (Beginner), Body Slam (Beginner)

Although this Munchlax had average potential and unremarkable moves with nothing special, Wen Qi still intended to raise it well for a warm, cuddly companion in winter. Besides, since Munchlax and Eevee were so close, it deserved even more care.

Watching the two Pokémon play happily nearby, Wen Qi joined them for a bit, arranged their living quarters, and then brought out a pile of energy cubes. He called Eevee and Munchlax over, pointed at the colorful energy cubes in front of them, and said: “Eevee, from today on, you’re in charge of managing Munchlax’s meals.”

Hearing this task, Eevee’s eyes lit up instantly, its small body standing straight with visible excitement. Wen Qi then patiently explained in detail: “These blue cubes are for you, and the green ones are for Munchlax. As for this special energy cube, give one to Munchlax at each meal. The rest, you can take as needed based on your own appetites. Remember, don’t let Munchlax overeat.”

Eevee listened intently, nodding repeatedly, as if vowing to excel at this important duty. Beside it, Munchlax stared at the tempting energy cubes, especially upon hearing it had a special one, its eyes wide with longing. Glancing at Eevee, now in charge of the food, it felt a pang of envy. It waddled over to Wen Qi, twisting its round, plump body and whining: “Master, master, let me handle it! I promise I’ll do a good job.”

Wen Qi shook his head with a smile and said: “You? Don’t even think about it. If you were in charge of the food, you wouldn’t stop until you were too stuffed to move. I’m not saying you can’t eat your fill, but from now on, you’ll follow Eevee’s arrangements for meals.”

Hearing Wen Qi’s firm refusal, Munchlax knew it had no chance and could only droop its head, reluctantly replying: “Fine.” But its darting eyes betrayed that it hadn’t fully given up on scheming for the food.

Wen Qi noticed all this and chuckled inwardly. He had anticipated Munchlax wouldn’t give up easily, but he wasn’t worried at all. He had secretly set a barrier over the pile of food, allowing only Eevee to access it—Munchlax couldn’t even touch it. Munchlax was still plotting to sneak some energy cubes for a feast once Wen Qi left, unaware that Wen Qi had already laid out a perfect plan.

Eevee stood by the food, staring sternly at Munchlax, its expression a clear warning: “Don’t even think about touching this food. I’ll be watching you closely.”

Munchlax pretended not to care, but its gaze kept drifting toward the energy cubes, its little schemes churning away. Wen Qi found their antics both amusing and endearing. He reminded Eevee again: “Eevee, keep a close eye on the food. Don’t let Munchlax cause any trouble.”

Eevee nodded firmly, its fur bristling with confidence, as if saying: “Master, don’t worry!”

Wen Qi stood up and turned to leave. Munchlax thought its chance had finally come and charged eagerly toward the food. But with a loud “thud,” it slammed into the barrier, rebounding with such force that it landed on its back, flailing helplessly. Seeing this, Eevee couldn’t help but burst into laughter, clutching its stomach.

Munchlax scrambled up, looking dejected and confused. It couldn’t figure out why it couldn’t reach the food. Eevee said smugly: “Don’t waste your energy. Master set a barrier—only I can get to it.”

Munchlax hung its head in defeat, muttering: “Hmph, Master is so biased.” But it knew there was nothing it could do, so it had to wait obediently for Eevee to portion out its food.

After Wen Qi left, Eevee followed his instructions, distributing appropriate amounts of energy cubes to Munchlax and itself. Though Munchlax still craved more food, it had to accept reality and wolfed down its share. Meanwhile, Eevee carried out its duties meticulously, carefully guarding the remaining food, filled with a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.
